    Hello

When using a workstation with FCP and Boris Red (for FCP) installed, what is the best way to go about creating a composition clip to import the boris project files into?

In Media100, it’s really easy with the “create composition clip” command; and I hope FCP has a similar set-up. I’m just not sure what that is. If there is a Boris+FCP tutorial posted somewhere I would really appreciate a link…

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

    Hi Max,

In FCP you can apply RED to any clip in the timeline without specifying that it is a composition or graphics clip / track. RED exists as a filter and transition in FCP so you simply drag a clip into the timeline, then drag the RED filter onto the clip, click on te RED banner in the controls window and you are into the RED user interface. Create the effect and click on apply and you are back in FCP.

    I hope this helps,

    Peter.

    Thanks Peter

There is a problem. When Red loads from FCP the dreaded green “proxy track” appears with a number two below it. I am using FCP 6.0 If I apply a filter to the green track the changes appear when I return to FCP. But I need live preview in RED.

Do you think there is a settings problem?

Also the footage was captured using the pull-down removal preset in FCP.

Source material is DV 24p shot with a NTSC-region JVC GY-HD100A

    Thanks Peter

    Hi Max,

You can change this by doing the following:

    • launch RED
    • from the pulldown menus in RED select … Preview>Image>Update Source

This should give you a live preview in RED within FCP.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
