If you are using the BCC filters directly within a host, you can add the BCC Safe Colors filter to the end of the output by placing this at the top of the filter stack. If you are using RED to render, you can enable the color safe output for any project by launching RED, then selecting from the pulldown menu: Edit>Project Settings. There is a checkbox titled Generate Safe Levels – enable this to clip the output to color safe levels.

You can change this by doing the following:

• launch RED
• from the pulldown menus in RED select … Preview>Image>Update Source

This should give you a live preview in RED within FCP.

Hi,

Here’s what I think is happening with that timeline. You have applied a BCC 4 (AE API) plug-in to a clip, removed BCC 4, installed BCC 5 (FxPlug API) and the timeline is not recognizing the filter due to the different API. You can get around this problem by reinstalling BCC 4 into FCP as FCP will allow the two versions of the filters to be installed on the same system.

Hi Art,

BFX will only render an AVI file from within a host when it is used as a plug-in; unlike Boris RED, BFX does not include a standalone render engine and will only render a single frame as a Targa file. You can use the standalone BFX keyframer app to set up an effect off-line but you must be plugged in to a host to render it out.

I’m surprised to hear of the problem as BCC should be stable on that platform within that host environment. Hi Esther,

Here are the steps:

• start with up to 6 layered / stacked media files on multiple video tracks in the Avid
• apply the BCC Cube to the top layer in the Avid timeline
• in the “view params” pop-up at the top of the filter controls, make sure that this is set to “all”
• down at the bottom of the filter control panel, twirl down the faces group
• set the “faces” pop-up to “Independent” – you will now have the ability to set different media on each face
• click on any of the layer pop-ups to set the media for that face

When you click on any of the face pop-ups, which are labeled front, back, left etc, you will see that the options are either none or on of the 6 tracks from the Avid timeline. In order for the filter to display media on the cube, the media must be layered in the Avid timeline or the face will render black.
