RED behaves as a filter when used in FCP so you simply drag it from the filters group and drop it directly onto a clip in the FCP timeline. Then, you should double click the clip with the filter and you will see that the RED banner will appear in the Controls Window. Click on the banner and the RED interface will appear. Create the effect that you want and then click on the apply button to return to the FCP interface.

RED is resolution independent – and when used on a clip in FCP, the clip determines the resolution. To create an HD effect, apply RED to an HD size clip.

If this is the same person that I was working with last night then you should already be sorted out but in case this is a different person I’ll send the same reply that got this to work for them.

The key here is to make sure that you select all of the text in the text generator window before you attempt to make adjustments to any parameter.

Here are the steps:

• under the generators function in the source window, select Boris>Title 3D
• click on the banner in the controls window to launch the text generator composition window
• if you need a live update while working on the text, make sure that the pop-up located at the bottom left of the text generator window is displaying the All Styles option. If it is set to anything other than All Styles then you will not see the shadow until you apply back to FCP.
• type some text
• select the text
• go to the 5th tab (select this by clicking on the 5th (last) on the vertical list
• set the shadow to taste (if you are not seeing the shadow, click on the pop-up at the bottom left of the text generator window and set it to All Styles)
• click the apply button
• set the in and out for the length of the generator clip
• drag the text from the source monitor into the timeline

Hi,

While I’m not exactly sure what the cause of the blurriness let’s see if we can figure it out. I have a couple of questions:

• Does the image look blurry even after you render?

• In the BFX Project Settings, is the Generate Safe Levels option on or off?

• In the BFX Project Settings, is the Better Quality Field Rendering option on or off?

• In the BFX Project Settings, what is the Color Depth option set to?

• Does the image look blurry if you use a Premiere Pro filter?

Hi,

Sounds to me like the icon on the desktop needs to be repaired as it’s still pointing to the old version. Here’s what to do. First delete the old icon from the Desktop. Then go to the directory where the application resides and create a new alias to the app. Then drag this alias onto the desktop. That should sort out the problem for you.

And it should be okay for you to either delete the older version of the application or to leave it there if you wish. This should not affect the performance of the system.

Hi Tudor,

You should make sure that the filters are in the CS4 MediaCore folder. IF they are not then, then you can manually move them into this folder and the filters should be available upon the next launch of AE / Premiere Pro. If you are still having problems then you should send an email off to support@borisfx.com and someone will assist you in getting the filters to show up.

Unfortunately the Plane Space plug-in is not compatible with Boris FX, Graffiti or RED at this time.

Hi Henrik,

You’ll definately need to use the full product installer to move the plugs. Regarding licensing, yes, you’ll need a new license alright as the old one is linked to the machine that you were using at that time and will not recognize the new machine. As long as you are registered in our database you should be okay though. Please contact me off list at peterm@borisfx.com to discuss this further.
