What happens if you use the load button and set the pop-up to “all files” instead of” the default of all readable files” when selecting the greyed out preset? Does that work?

HI,

The scale issue is a result of the fact that RED must take the media before any transformations take place. This is the render pipe that is passed to RED from Premiere Pro and you get around that by either performing all of the scaling in RED or by nesting / precomposing the scaled clip before applying RED (if indeed that is an option in the Premiere interface.

The paint issue is something that I’ll have to look at when I’m in the office on Monday, unless anyone else reading this has any insight to offer. You might want to make sure that you are in full / high resolution in RED while creating the paint strokes.

Hey Art,

The fact that you have never used CS3 on that machine shouldn’t matter at all. Here is what I suggest:

• download the latest trial version of BFX
• install this into CS4 using the custom option (we have not yet updated our installers to find the CS4 plug-ins folder automatically so you will have to point to that location manually)
• launch Premiere Pro (or AE)
• apply FX to a clip in the timeline
• click on the FX banner in the controls window to enter the FX interface
• create a simple effect
• click on the apply button at the bottom right of the timeline
• render

Please let me know how this works – if you have any problem we’ll assist you in overcoming them so that this configuration work for you.

YEs, that should work just as expected. Currently the FX installer does not have a CS4 option, so you should select CS3 and then move the filters from the CS3 Mediacore folder into the CS4 Mediacore folder.

Glad to hear that you’re enjoying the application. It’s a very powerful and comprehensive toolset and there are many free tutorials available on our web site at http://www.borisfx.com/tutorials.

So, to prevent the football and brick wall from appearing every time you launch, you need to set a preference. Here’s how:

• launch RED
• go to edit>preferences
• click on the behavior tab
• enable the “Start with Empty Timeline” function
• close the preferences window
• exit RED
• relaunch RED – viola – no more football!

One thing to note is that the football is the only proxy image that is in the application and for this reason, if you create a new shape track, it will show the football. Obviously you can change that immediately by setting the media to solid color etc.

Also … you might want to click on the face sub-track of the imported still image to make sure that the image is not stretched – native size and imported size as listed in the controls window should be identical. If they are not, then you can change this by clicking on the aspect pop-up in the controls window and selecting either square pixels or use project aspect ratio.

Okay … so what you need to do is this:

• open the preferences panel (edit>preferences)
• go to the import tab in the preferences pane
• set the aspect pop-up to square pixels
• close the preferences pane
• go to the preview drop down menu and select preview>preview with square pixels
• open the project settings (edit>project settings)
• set the video aspect pop-up to square pixels

With these settings imported stills should not be changed to fit the project on import and they will appear square on-screen.
