Thanks for all the replys guys, I got it now. I had assumed the first poster had suggested changing the shutter angle from 180deg to 50 deg. So I will go with the 1/50sec exposure.

Reducing the shutter from 180 to 50 will result in not being able to shoot in available light and will also cause strobing due to the narrow shutter. Is this the only solution?

The HVX200 is a very noisy camera, even with a lot of light. The answer for me was “Neat Video” denoiser as a FCP plugin. There is also Red Giants Denoiser. Either of these plugins will remove all the grain from the image, use with caution tho, if you are too heavy handed the image can end up looking unnatural. But with practice you can get an amazing result. I can’t do without them now.

Try making a color frame in photoshop the same resolution as your timeline and put it on video track 2 under the jpeg in order to fill the frame behind and hide the black.

The best green screen is made of spandex, never a wrinkle in sight. clip it to a frame and its perfect. We get them from Composite Systems in Los angeles and they are the inventor of Digital green and have the tech Oscar for it.

Those riser cards will not work to convert the PCIe to a PCIx for the AJA card. I took the time to call Gerald at AJA yesterday to ask him about it. the Kona card requires a 4 stream slot those risers are only for a single stream slot. Case closed. I’ll lay off the rant Bob already did it.

Also speak to the DP who shot it. Perhaps the look is what he was after, and your attempts to help him out, will change the look of the film to something he was not intending.

Another option is to get the AJA Io, they are on ebay all the time. I got one from there almost new for $500. The Io will input analog via firewire.
