William, I was just about to get rid of them but I have here a Waveform monitor and Vectorscope (Tectronix 1720 and 1730 in rack mount config). I would be happy for you to have them if they would help. You would just have to pay shipping. I’m in LA.

Is the 48fps not meant to be slow motion? If so you need to be in a 24fps timeline. 48fps run at 48 is not slow motion

  • What you are seeing here is interlace, you must have shot at 1080i. This can be removed successfully with compressor. Remove it before compressing for output, in other words in the original footage.

I too would like to hear the definitive answer to this question. I have been using my broadcast monitor as the standard for web delivery. But is this the correct method. Lets hear it from the experts.

Jody I had a similar problem with my KiPro Mini and the F3. As you know there are 3 SDI connections on the F3. The two at the top A – B and the one at the side called HDSDI out. That one send out 29.97 all the time even if you have set up the camera to record 24p. However there is a menu item so that you can turn off that function. If you go through your menu you will find it and it will switch on the 23.876 to come out of that HD SDI out, then the KiPro will record 24 and if you click on the status button you will see it is recording at the correct speed.

Also in the F3, if you firmware version 1.01 the SDI out, marked A at the top of the camera will also give you 24p but you have to turn that on as well in the menu. I don’t have the camera here with me right at this moment to give you the exact place to find those menu items, but if you have trouble finding them post here again and I will go get the camera and let you know exactly where they are.

July 17, 2011 at 7:48 pm in reply to: What is a ‘kernel panic’?

Well I really hope that I can put you out of your misery. I suspect you are going from OSX 10.6.7 to 10.6.8 and you have a Kona card in the system. May people have been bitten with this one, and it caused me no end of problems.

The Kona card with drivers earlier than v9 conflict with 10.6.8, so when you do the update and the computer restarts it crashed with a Kernel panic. The answer is to install the new drivers first, if you are going to be using FCP X then use the Beta drivers from AJA. Once you have installed the drivers the computer will update with no crash. Alternatively take the Kona card out until you have done the update and INSTALLED the drivers then reinstall the card.

    I hope that this helps.

The short reply is no. However there are some solutions. The output from the HVX200 is analog, so you can attach an analog to SDI converter. I use the the handy little box from AJA, and that works great. I think there are some others out there from Blackmagic.

  • Neat video filter requires an inordinate amount of time to render. It does an amazing job but takes forever. I cut a 90 min movie in which I used that filter and just a 2 minute segment took 20 mins to render, and this on a 8 core machine.
