This is a difficult shot to expose for, you are screwed whichever way you go, but if it was me shooting I would have opted to protect the highlights and hope to dig out the shadows in post. However as David states we don’t know the camera used and what the setting were, maybe there was an option to shoot in log and that would have helped a lot. Panasonic cameras also have the option of resetting the gamma and the knee to help with shots like this.

You will just have to work hard with your color correction using masks to adjust to the best of your ability. Try working in Resolve and that will give you the most ability to correct.

As far as I am aware. AVI Is a PC codec and Macs don’t have it installed. You would have to use an application called Telestream Episode which when you purchase it comes with the codec. Alternatively take your project to a buddy who edits on a PC.

    Hope this helps.

I believe that this is a premiere issue. I have had the same thing happen here frequently. The audio always returns but it is extremely frustrating. I have been working with Premiere now for two years and really like it, except for the many audio issues.

Adobe please step up and address this.

    Mac Pro 8 core
    AJA Kona card
    nVideo GX650 graphics

  • What about the rest of us who were waiting for the answer. Care to share?

Your problem is an issue with the AJA card and premiere. You need to have it set up just exactly right. I suggest calling AJA tech support they will tell you the secret. I’m not near my computer right now otherwise I could give you the steps. But mine is now working perfectly. After all sorts of hell with audio.

Thanks for the reply Peter, but I can assure you that the Quadro4000 is not working here. I have just ordered a GTX 680 to replace it.

Walter I do have that Cuda driver installed. Here is what I get when clicking on the nVidea driver in System Preferences:

It seems that the nVidea web driver is not working with Mavericks and that breaks Cuda.

Well my Quadro 4000 does not work either after the upgrade to Mavericks. Really messed up my work day, everything need rendering now. Just waiting for a 11 hr render to finish. Think I’ll just give up waiting for drivers and get the 680 card. Ahh maybe that was the strategy to get more cards sold!!

Ok so its all working now, whew that took a lot of effort to sort out. there is not a lot of documentation around to get all this information, even googling the problem only reveals others that have the same issue but no resolutions. Thank you so much for the assistance that you have given me, this is what the Cow was made for.
