  • How does FCP7 3 way color corrector adjustments translate in the Premiere’s 3 Way Color Corrector world?

I’m a recent convert from FCP7 to Premiere (and loving it by the way) but while I was a FCP7 3 way color corrector master, I’ve been having a hard time translating that into Premiere’s 3 way color correction tool. Obviously the 3 color wheels are pretty self explanatory and have the same effect. The main thing I’m missing is the sliders that FCP7 has below each of the color wheels for Shadows, Midtones and Highlights – what is this called in Premiere? I really don’t like curves if I can avoid them as I felt like I had better control with the 3 sliders. In Premiere if I twirl down those 3 categories of Shadow, Midtone or Highlight options, I can’t alter the level of each like the FCP7 sliders. Any help someone could give on what the FCP7 sliders below each of the color wheels are called in Premiere would be much appreciated!

Never mind, I received an incredibly helpful phone call from a fellow creative cow-er Andy, explaining it all. Thanks so much Andy!!!

Sure, basically the 3 sliders in FCP7’s 3 way color corrector correspond with Adobe’s Input Level slider that you’ll find on either the fast color corrector or 3 way color corrector in Premiere. They take some playing around with but there’s 3 little pointers, if you will, along a grayscale gradient bar. When you drag the left most pointer slightly more towards the center, it darkens your shadows, the middle pointer can be slid left and right much in the same way as the FCP middle slider controlled your mids and then if you need to bring back your highlights a bit, you can pull the right pointer to the left. The 3 color wheels in the 3 way color corrector work exactly the same way from FCP to Premiere. This is my rough understanding and so far it’s yielded very similar results. Hope that helps!
