I think HQ is more intended for when you’re doing color correction or graphics work. The visual difference is pretty non-existent

Go into your Audio video setting -> Av Devices. Make sure that the differrent output for Edit to Tape box is off.

Is it possible you’re looking at drop frame timecode in one place and NDF timecode in the other? That would explain why the TC is different but the material is correct.

I’ve never had any luck ever getting FCP to reconnect to render files properly. Next time you have to disconnect a drive I’d be sure to save your project, quit FCP then disconnect it. Once render files go offline it never seems to work reconnecting them manually.

  • Most of them aren’t flashy but Natresses’ filters will save your hide more than once.

My only suggestion would be if you are going to need to create a SD version test your workflow for that ahead of time. Downconverting in FCP from HDV to SD formats like DVD can be a real headache at times.

Have you tried just doing it first? If the program is that short the sync loss is going to be pretty minimal.

I’d make a backup of everything before conforming stuff just in case

Well Automatic duck handles the copying and linking of the aiff files so directly manipulating them would be tough. However I think the modify timecode option should work. I’ll have to test it out.

    Thanks

Ok allow me to explain a little further. I used automatic duck for some media files. There is apparently a bug in FCP that is making Final Cut not correctly interpret the timecode in aiff files.

I’m ending up with clips that have the correct media ins and outs for the video but audio media always starts at zero.

VBR also takes a heck of a lot more time. I’ve never had bad luck using Compressor’s basic setups though the High quality 2 pass VBR settings are downright painfully slow. It seems like in the new FCS it’s gotten even slower too.
