So it sounds like it really isn’t ‘bad’ to just use the Admin user, right? If I only have a few projects and don’t use multiple configurations, just using the ‘Admin’ user isn’t a problem from what I think you said.

Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t going to do something bad to my database or something like that.

Hello,

I have about 25 timelines in my project. 9 of them are longer (about 12000 frames each). The rest are short (about 2000 frames each). The one I was trying to render out is 945 frames. Does the H264 require more resources (and thus might fail with big projects)?

Are there performance guidelines about how many timelines, files in the media pool, etc?

Thanks for the info. I do have lots of free space on the render drive.

I am currently running CUDA driver 3.2.17. I never did the upgrade to the version 4 driver. I did restart the application a few times (well it did crash every time). I eventually exported as a Prores file and that worked fine. A little frustrating.

I did consider that. I wanted the shots in show order and TC so I can easily find the shots from the full session and copy the grades over quickly. I guess it’s just a feature request then. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion. It doesn’t say it works on Avid or Resolve. Am I missing that? I only have access to the Resolve and Avid for these projects.

I take it that the De-noise in Resolve is not really working?

Hi John,

No the Resolve can not export an AAF (at least at this point in time). We found that you can relink your Avid sequence to the new MXF media files. You can also use the media tool in Avid to drag the media clip into a bin if you want to be able to use the file in other sequences.

Hi Jeff,

I have not had all the problems that you have had with the Avid workflow, but I agree it needs some real work. I had a different list of problems.

I have been able to get the Resolve to see the Avid 10bit DNXHD media. Although a few times it won’t see the start TC and I have to manually change it in the Resolve.

My issue is with the AAF ‘workflow’. It really just doesn’t work very well. Our issue is that if subclips are used in the timeline, the resolve will not link properly. If we replace all the subclips (manually) with master clips before we make the AAF, it will link properly.

Obviously many of the effects either don’t transfer properly or actually will mess up the timeline (put in black holes or move it down out of sync). I am really hoping that v.8 fixes these issues. As of right now, the AAF workflow doesn’t seem to have any real advantages over EDL. Which is a bummer since the AAF can carry alot more valuable metadata than a simple old EDL.

Yes I would love it if Blackmagic would support the Tangent CP100 and CP200 panels. Some really nice boards that they are not taking advantage of. Might just be that they want to sell more of their own panels.

While I appreciate the suggestions, no one has really answered my question. It sounds like the color page can not really access the RAW file directly. It has to be “pre-processed” in the RED setting first, or at least it only can access whatever data is output from the RED settings page. Does no one else see that as a flaw or negative?

I guess I just thought Resolve would have that power to directly tap into the RAW data from the color panel.

For this project, we don’t have enough time in the schedule to re-grade each shot from scratch. We are taking the look that the production team started and just tweaking it from there. If I had the time I would go back to the flat default settings and work from there but we just don’t have that kind of time.

They did alot of that pre-color work already but there are just shots where we want more color back in and having to pull up those RED settings when we can’t get as much color back in the color page is really slowing me down. Just frustrating to me…
