Tangent CP200
Posted by Rémi Berge on April 18, 2011 at 9:26 pmHello,
I have already requested the MDBs to add support for the Tangent Devices CP200 as remote control for Resolve.
I tried the Wave and Color-artist, but their use diminishes the software, and the Panel’s Resolve is relatively expensive and for single use only.
The CP200 can be a quality alternative.
If this development interests you, let us know the support, for it develops in this direction or that provide an SDK at Tangent Devices.

April 18, 2011 at 10:10 pmYes I would love it if Blackmagic would support the Tangent CP100 and CP200 panels. Some really nice boards that they are not taking advantage of. Might just be that they want to sell more of their own panels.

April 18, 2011 at 10:38 pmI have made my preference clear on a number of occasions, via web and personally. The onus seems to be with the OEM –> Tangent and the SDK availability. Tangent are fully aware of Resolve and its requirements, and certainly the Ethernet port interface should not be a hindrance.
My sense is that there are going to be a lot of Resolve users coming onstream very shortly and the panel manufacturers need to get on their horses.

April 18, 2011 at 10:54 pmYes, this would be fantastic. I have a CP200 and the wave, and use the wave for resolve, but kind of hate it.
CP200 support would be fantastic.

April 19, 2011 at 12:17 amEthernet requirement is not a problem, as demonstrated by the MC support.
I don’t think we’ll see a CP-100 and 200 support for one simple reason- BM is trying very hard for users to buy they high end offering. MC and Wave do not compete with the BM panel, CP-100 and 200 do… -

April 19, 2011 at 1:26 amHi,
It is always a major body of work to add support for other panels to Resolve, as the original Resolve code was written to interact very closely and only with the DaVinci Resolve control surface. I know that there have been a lot of requests for third party hardware support, including the Tangent Devices CP200, and we haven’t forgotten about it!
At the NAB 2011 show, we displayed the following panels working with Resolve for Mac:
• DaVinci Resolve control surface
• Tangent Devices WAVE
• JL Cooper Eclipse CX
• Avid EuphonixWe’re always working on adding support for more third party hardware and the latest addition is OpenCL which enables Resolve to run on computers that don’t have NVIDIA CUDA GPUs. The current MacBook Pro series exclusively use ATI GPUs for their high performance graphics and Resolve 7.1.1 cannot run on it. That’s why it was essential to spend the last few months adding OpenCL support to Resolve 8.0 so it can work with ATI GPUs even though NVIDIA CUDA GPUs still provide better performance in Resolve. We would love to have added even more support for both Blackmagic and third party hardware but OpenCL was more urgent.
Peter Chamberlain is the product manager for DaVinci Resolve so please do feel free to email him and let him know you would also like support for the CP200. His email is petercATblackmagic-designDOTcom.

April 19, 2011 at 7:42 amHi Margus,
The link you provided for Avid Artist Color states formerly Euphonix MC Color so I think it is the same panel with a new badge. The illustrations of the panel at that link look identical to the Euphonix units at NAB. Maybe someone more authoritative can comment but that’s how it appears to me.

April 19, 2011 at 4:32 pmHello Luke,
I am aware of the work of your team and I said “bravo”.
I worked with daVinci for many years and progress was very … slow.
However, the placing at disposal of Tangent Devices or other manufacturers an SDK would allow you to discharge yourself of that development.
These manufacturers have demonstrated their expertise with these tools.
I will write to Peter Chamberlain in that direction.
best regards.

April 20, 2011 at 12:00 amHi Rémi,
I fully agree with you but it is a mammoth task. In the short term, it has been quicker to add support for specific panels than to develop the SDK, even though we would prefer an SDK. Hopefully the SDK will happen in the future but for the moment we’re adding specific device support so that it works very reliably.
