Activity Forums DaVinci Resolve Admin user vs other user

I was curious about the Resolve “users”. I have just been using the Admin user for all my work, but I recently saw some a training video that said this was a bad idea. There was no reason given why it was a bad idea.

Can anyone mention why it would be bad to use the Admin user to do all your work if you are the only person using the system? Also what is the reason for making multiple users? There really aren’t many user settings that can be customized so I am just curious also why you need to have lots of user accounts for Resolve.

    thanks,
    Peter

    Hi Peter,

Each user can have a different config saved as the default. So any new projects created by that user start with that config, unless manually set to something else. In a single operator scenario, you might want to use different users for different default configs. Of course, you can do the same by having multiple configs associated with a single user and choosing the one you want for each project.

The admin user can create a system default config which becomes the default config for any new users created.

One other use of multiple users is to organize projects. Instead of having all your projects under a single user, you could have related projects stored under one user such that each user has a more manageable number of projects. That would make it easy to browse and access.

    Thanks Vivek.

So it sounds like it really isn’t ‘bad’ to just use the Admin user, right? If I only have a few projects and don’t use multiple configurations, just using the ‘Admin’ user isn’t a problem from what I think you said.

Just wanted to make sure it wasn’t going to do something bad to my database or something like that.

    thanks,
    Peter

Correct. It’s ok to use Admin.
