It sounds like you want Form to split your image spatially, it cannot do that. But there are some plugs that can: Shatter, Card Dance I think..
The closest you can get in Form is to use a really small sphere particle and the image as Color map over XY. It will be a “disintegration” effect, not shatter.

I agree, “Flux” was cooler, but it was too similair to “Lux” and we had to change it to avoid confusion.

I strongly discourage using Collapse Transformations on the custom particle layer.
Other than that, the tip to 3D rotate the particle inside the precomp should do it, what seems to be the problem?Peder Norrby / Trapcode

To make them stand still, set Emitter>Velocity to 0.
To make a large volume of particles chooce emitter type Box and set Emitter>Size’s to large values.How do you know the used Trapcode Particular? Is there an article somewhere? I’d love to read it.

Looks like you are uisng 3D Stroke with non-square pixels, that won’t fly.
