i’ve set up a particular animation with custom particles (a font dingbat) and i’m wondering if there’s any way to make the particle NOT automatically face the camera. i want to do a camera move as the particles stream by and i think it would look much better if the particles looked like they were oriented in space and not to my camera. i checked the manual and all the settings but couldn’t find anything..maybe i’m missing something?

Nope, can’t do. Particular will always allign the custom particles towards the camera. Depending on the nuber of particles involved, you may wanna consider other options such as using expressions to build a custom particle system.

I could be wrong,….but I believe you can do this by making a precomp with your custom particle in it,…make it 3D and rotate it.

Use that comp as your custom particle,…(collapse transformations too).

    Oughta do it…..

i thought this was the case, thanks mylenium. regarding the precomp, that would work only to change the angle of the particle but the particle would still always face the camera in the same way. good idea though and i had to try it to confirm it wouldn’t work 🙂

I strongly discourage using Collapse Transformations on the custom particle layer.
Other than that, the tip to 3D rotate the particle inside the precomp should do it, what seems to be the problem?
