Hi N1Gooner
I would suspect that your friend is seeing black windows on playback because he has external video enabled, and video playback disabled.
Get your friend to check the settings on the following menu items:

May 20, 2005 at 3:55 pm in reply to: Nested sequences, when made longer, change the sequence they’re nested in.Ok, so if you don’t want the master sequence to be changed when you make changes to the subordinate sequence, then don’t nest them; use good old copy (cmd-C) and paste (cmd-V).
eg. SeqA + SeqB = SeqC

May 20, 2005 at 3:29 pm in reply to: Online Edit for Mini-DV Short film: Options for Finishing/Mastering?Hey Nick
I guess when one considers the amount of rendering required as a percentage of the total sequence timeline, with titles, compositing, filters and effects, conversion to 10-bit prior to mastering allows a lot more headroom for the rendered frames ie. a significant amount of the sequence, and also more space for colour correction.
Is this your argument? If so, I can see its merits.
Thanks for elaborating.

I hope this doesn’t sound stupid, but if all of your footage was shot on DV and captured using DV codec, how would remastering at a higher definition format make it look any better? I thought that once something was shot at a certain codec, there was no point in trying to upscale it because the data (ie. colour, light, definition etc.) was never even captured in the first place.
And if you transfer all of your media, which is encoded in DV format, to a higher definition workspace, won’t that workspace still be constrained to working within the limits of DV?
How does it get better? Please describe the improvements.

I’m not sure if I understand the question — do you want you nested sequence to NOT reflect changes made in the source sequence?

Hi
This is correct, turn the Anamorphic 16:9 flag on in the Browser for all captured clips.
If you have already placed some of the clips in the timeline, you will also need to do the following:
1. Change the settings for the sequence to Anamorphic 16:9 as well:
a. Select the menu item: Sequence > Settings -
Hi
There are always a hundred ways to skin a cat! Here is my method:
Generally, I find the best process to do this kind of stuff is to create a second instance of the clip to be blurred, above the original clip. Matte out this second instance such that only the part that needs to be blurred is visible. Apply a blur filter to this second clip and you’re all set.
I will break this process into steps for you, as follows:
1. Duplicate the clip with the material to be blurred in a track above the current track.
2. Select this 2nd instance of the clip.
3. Apply a Four-Point Garbage Matte, or if the area to be blurred is more complex, an Eight-Point Garbage Matte. You will find these in the Video Filters > Matte folder on the Effects pane
4. Ensure you add Feather to the Edges of the matte, in its parameters. This will ensure a smooth gradation between the blur and non-blurred part of the footage
5. Apply a Gaussian Blur to the clip
Voila! Magic
Hope this helps!

Hi
Unfortunately Microsoft admits there are issues with VPC and Tiger:

Hey Chris
Awake here but only because I’m on the other side of the world! Sydney, Australia here
Man, I hate timecode breaks too. Drive me insane. It’s not that hard for a camera person / DoP to keep their eye on things.
I am very very clear about this with clients, and charge them more if I encounter these!!! 😉Go to bed!

Hi guys
I’ve been told that all the new apps have had their performance boosted, as they draw on CoreImage, and CoreVideo.
As such, we really need to be running Tiger to take advantage of this benefit. Can anyone confirm whether this is the case?
