Nested sequences, when made longer, change the sequence they’re nested in.
The manual does say how to work around this… unfortunately, I don’t get it. Short of placing splices in a nested sequence, what workflow do you use for it not to be affected when changes are made in the source.
I hope this makes sense, I’m tired.

I’m not sure if I understand the question — do you want you nested sequence to NOT reflect changes made in the source sequence?

Yes, you’re right. I don’t want the changes to be reflected in the ‘MASTER’ sequence that has all the little sequences nested inside of it. Don’t get me wrong, I see the huge benefit of this feature as well. I just want a good workflow method to get around this when I don’t want those changes to be reflected in the MASTER.
For example, if I have a dessolve between one nested sequence and another and I want to make the dissolve longer. I would have to go into the nested sequence, make it a little bit longer, giving it the handles I need for the dissolve. Unfortunately, when I go back to the master, my whole timeline has been shifted, music sync and all.

Ok, so if you don’t want the master sequence to be changed when you make changes to the subordinate sequence, then don’t nest them; use good old copy (cmd-C) and paste (cmd-V).
eg. SeqA + SeqB = SeqC

Hold on now…. A little misunderstanding. I ‘DO’ want the changes to be reflected…. just not the length of the ‘MASTER’ sequence.
