This is not a problem with the H4n, it’s with Vegas. The H4n files work fine in Premiere, and in Pro Tools. Vegas is the only program having issues with these wav files. Vegas does the same glitch with audio recorded on my Sound Devices 664 as well, and also with multi track wav files recorded on an HD24. So it’s not limited to the H4n. I wonder if anyone has found a solution? The AIF workaround works, but is a pain and you lose timecode and metadata in the files. The bug is killing me. Oddly, the files open in Vegas 10 on a laptop just fine, but not on my main editing machine. Both 64bit, same program. Anyone know why Vegas 10 and later can’t handle these wav files correctly?

I have this same problem with Vegas, and it’s really annoying. I wonder if anyone has found a solution? The AIF workaround works, but is a pain and you lose timecode and metadata in the files. I have had this same problem, and it is indeed Vegas related. The files import just fine in Premiere, or play back fine in VLC or other media players, but in multiple versions of Vegas (9, 10, etc), the files import with glitches. The wave drawings are often glitched too. Upon playback, it’s as if the bits are garbled and out of order…you can hear certain parts of the audio briefly at times and then digital noise and pops. Something is wrong with the way Vegas is accessing the timecode in the file or some such thing.
Has anyone noticed a workaround that will allow use of the original wav files? Many of mine have markers on them that I’d like to maintain.
My only workaround has been to open the wav files in Sound Forge or something else, and save them as aiff files. Then they open in Vegas just fine, although they lose the marker metadata.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Something is amiss with the way Vegas sees long files from a Zoom H4n.
I do agree that Vegas is VERY audio capable. I use is as a sound design template and also as a finishing tool for surround mixes. Very powerful routing and track use. It’s a shame these Zoom wav files are such a problem. Again, this is Vegas only. I’ve tried it on several other platforms and the files are fine otherwise.

I found a program (via another Creative Cow forum) for AE called Sure Target 2 at videocopilot.net that does exactly what I needed 🙂
Here’s the demo if you’re interested:

I was told it was done by a novice, and I meant it as a compliment. I could have chosen my words better. I included the statement merely to frame my initial question to help pinpoint what software might have been used. I didn’t want to re-invent the wheel if someone recognized this as “Poster Slideshow Template #3” from some suite…

That covers it in broad strokes, but what about the subtle camera jiggle, etc. There are tons of different zooms and different varieties of blurs and things, and this was done by someone not knowing much about post production. To keyframe all those moves by hand and make them all unique would take tons of time. I’m guessing they used a template, just wondering what it was? I’m particularly interested in the smooth camera jiggling…almost as if a camera was mounted to the end of one of those kids claw games that moves via joystick and tries to grab the stuffed animal…

The M-Audio series works really well with video setups. The BX5 range sounds really nice. Add a sub and you’re dangerous. Cost effective too.

OK I will try this today. I’ve had good luck with this sort of thing before with fx generated in AE, but this is my first try with a demo of PI. I’m blown away by the program and I hope to convince a client that we should buy it but I need to get these to work in Vegas since that’s their main workflow. Thanks for the tip…

PNG may be lossless, but it doesn’t look lossless on my setup right now. Trying to put a PNG sequence with alpha generated from PI3 into Vegas, and it’s not retaining it’s clarity or transparency. It’s working, but it’s muddy and blotchy… Is there a setting in PI3 that switches between 24bit and 32bit images? Not sure what I’m doing wrong…
