I need to buy some decent speakers to use with my desktop pc editing station. Preferably under $500. I work in a higher ed institution and do stuff mostly for the web, but my boss is a former audio engineer and hears everything. Anyone have any recommendations or warnings? Thanks.

How about Koss, Sony, or Philips “FM broadcast quality” headphones at $30 a pair? Although I`ve never heard a pair of headphones with dead on perfect high frequencies, many are way good. Use no high power audio into headphones.

The M-Audio series works really well with video setups. The BX5 range sounds really nice. Add a sub and you’re dangerous. Cost effective too.
