ok, but wait. the dreamcolor does have hdmi right? and hdmi 1.3 spec can handle 10bit (i think). so the decklink extreme pro extra super (or whatever they call it now – it has hdmi out – 10 bit? i don’t know).
or you could go nvidia daughter card out sdi or kona 3 sdi to a sdi to hdmi (hopefully 1.3 10 bit) into the dreamcolor?
i’m just saying this is an interesting monitor (have never even seen one yet).

trying to remember, but now i think it was actually an invidia card with an sdi daughter card which means of course that you would need a sdi to (10 bit) hdmi (1.3) converter to the hp dreamcolor – which comes with a calibration probe i think – and 601, 709 etc precalibrated presets. interesting. and they just dropped the price $1000 to $2499. just interesting i think.

what’s going on with the HP dreamcolor monitor and that new nvidia (or is it ati) card that outputs 10 bit over dvi? would that be a monitor only solution. haven’t really put the pieces together in my head yet.

well, thanks for the warning! won’t be upgrading for a while anyway. have you called the kona guys? they are so incredibly quick at troubleshooting…

just finished a feature here too, can’t work without the kona (monitoring hd and sd downconvert). os 10.5.4, kona 6.0, color .009 beta (kidding)

how about the kona control panel? it is very easy to have this set incorrectly so that you are converting the output to something else without even knowing it. i would carefully go through all the tabs and settings and make sure those are all ok.

10 bit hd on a firewire drive and you want to layoff to SR. I think you might be a little over your head on this one. again, how did you monitor your color session? on an HD monitor out of your kona3? a color critical monitor?
so you are basically asking this forum to hold your hand and teach you what has taken us our entire careers to learn – how we make a living and pay our mortgage and feed our kids. you don’t want to pay one of us (who know how to do this), but only teach you how to do it for free? right?this forum used to be about professionals helping professionals (ie. “i have and hdcamsr deck here and can’t figure out the sync error I’m getting – I thought looping ref would be ok”. reply “YOU IDIOT! YOU NEED TRI-SYNC FOR 23.98 signed Bob Z.) and that would be that.

wow. maybe you might want to take the project to a post house to lay this off for you. there is so much to know on this and many potential pitfalls (framerates, deck settings, sync, kona settings, etc, etc). or at least rent from a house that can provide a tech to help you get setup for output.
just out of curiosity, what format did you cut this in, and how have you been monitoring?Paul Provost
