2k work flow? I thought you were a systems integrator? are your clients requiring you to be a post supervisor/online editor too?
probably, as my clients now want me to be a sound mixer and motion graphics artist in addition to everything else. the way things are going i might as well brush up on my airplane pilot and dry cleaning skills too…

what frame rate was the tape recorded at? we have seen video with no audio if the JH3 is not set correctly to match (or crossconvert) the tapes rate. (ie 23.98 tape and deck set to 24, etc.)

July 25, 2008 at 9:46 am in reply to: Kona LHe vs BM Decklink HD Extreme

kona and decklink cards give you the ability to connect a professional video deck for input and output and a professional monitor for viewing. for what you are doing (wedding videos, etc.) from file based sources you don’t need one.
just use your computer monitors for viewing and bring in your file based footage from disk/drive/card whatever.
unless you’re producing material for major network delivery, don’t bother.

we use sorenson squeeze quite a bit, but you should be able to get excellent results from compressor by customizing the settings. adjusting frame controls often dramatically improves stuff (and takes about year to render).

July 17, 2008 at 2:40 am in reply to: how long does it take aja support to respond?

just call them. I’ve had to call them twice in the past year for a couple of weird problems and they were able to solve it in minutes both times. they have the BEST tech support period. really quite unbelievable in this day and age.

June 7, 2008 at 7:13 am in reply to: Blu-Ray Birth Pains

I just think they (bluray spec group) may have “jumped the shark” on this one. they pushed the cost so far past sd dvd that they made a “build it and they will come” except nobody did. it seems nobody cares. download and broadcast is growing faster than hd on disk. either people don’t care about the superior quality, or they will wait until the quality is truly better (in home 4-8k projectors?).
I wish it wasn’t so as I make my living at this stuff, but hd on dvd seems doa…
