“Took a while but all good” is the phrase he used to describe transcoding 3TB of MXF into ProRes? Bit of an understatement if you ask me. Or did I read that wrong? I only shoot MXF and have found FCPX handles it way less than optimal. If I transcode then it’s much better. But I’m not supposed to have to do that right?
I cut 2 jobs in X just this past week. I like it. I use it. Honestly, it’s not my favorite. But I own it and like I said I use it and make money with it.

About the same. I’ll keep trying. But PPro just rips right through it. I get a little better response at 35 or 25 mbps than I do at 50, but I don’t see a reason to dumb down the picture just to get things running smooth. Just my workflow.

Yeah, but they (The Powers That Be) give me a new box every two years. I didn’t ask for it, but I ain’t gonna say no. So the current Retina is what’s coming. 512 SSD and 16 gig. I won’t hear from them again until 2015.

I have a new Retina MBP coming this week and hope it runs FCPX better than my current rig (early 2011 15″ MBP/2.2 i7/16gig). There’s a lot to like in there, but it just chokes on the MXF I feed it.

Just this morning we took an old iMac from something before Snow Leopard (not sure what) to Mountain Lion. Had to upgrade it to Snow Leopard, then completely upgrade Snow Leopard to the very last version of it before it would allow the upgrade to Mountain Lion. Kind of like spending all day in the kitchen making icing before you can make the cake, but it worked.

Don’t know why that’s not working for you. I even have the hold mapped to Command H then Command R to get to the duration dialogue. Set it to out, set the length and I get exactly that.

Copy the clip. Right click, frame hold out, right click, speed/duration, set duration.

Hit the “camera” icon at the bottom of the Program Monitor or Source Monitor to grab a frame you want, save it (whatever format you prefer), and then import it and use it as a source. You can make it as long or short as you need.

The Creative Suite is so much more than editing/effects and now even so much more than just image creation/manipulation. And so is Adobe. In another comparison to Apple I’d liken whatever product(s) you use and Adobe Creative Cloud to the iPod and the App Store/iTunes. The former is the vehicle and the latter is the ultimate destination.
There’s a lot of good stuff in there that you didn’t even know you wanted or needed. That’s the definition of innovation.
