    Hey All…

sorry….they are now asking me to checking into the HXR-NX30.

This one shoots to AVCHD files and suppports clip spanning.

Some searches yield some ppl running into problems with spanned media….but nothing recent…

All the stuff we shoot is pretty short duration, so I’d expect not to run into spanning issues to often.

How is PPro with spanned source from this camera?

How is Prelude? Can it be mereged in transcode if necessary?

Is it folder stucture for file single file based?

    Thanks…

    Alex

    Hi Alex,

I recently shot a 2.5 hour stage event using a rented Sony AX-2000, which ought to be recording the same format you are discussing. I copied the ENTIRE contents of the SDHC cards onto video hard drive. Did NOT run through any Sony utility.

I then used Media Browser in Premiere CS6 to Import. Browser did not show a lot of clips – I think it has an intelligence to know that the bunch of smaller clips all belong to the same larger clip – so the import showed as one clip name.

No glitches or audio sync issues at all. Matched to HDV second camera angle footage and sync was perfect for the entire show.

I think a lot of folks that have problems with AVCHD are messing with the files first, joining them in the Sony utility before trying to edit.

    Thanks

    Hey Jeff….

    That’s great info….thanks….

What do you think about Prelude?

While it’s not necessary to transcode to work in PPro…

If we shoot material then want to drop it in our library….

I’d want to be able to end up with a single clip for searching/naming purposes at the OS level.

    Sorry to be a PITA….

    thanks…

Would you believe I’ve never opened Prelude, ever? I guess I don’t need it for my workflow, which is typically HDV with some AVCHD from time to time.

    Thanks

Prelude (through Media Encoder) will convert your spanned AVCHD clip into one clip, i.e. a single Prores, MXF, etc.

OR you can use Premiere’s Media browser, import the recognized ‘spanned’ clip into the timeline and export as one clip (again through Media Encoder).
