More than 12 instances should work.
You have 12 physical cores but 24 available threads.

It’s the same in After Effects CS5. You have 24 available threads for rendering on a 12-Core.
You do need 32GB -64 GB ram ofcourse or it will only slow it down.

Both are native. I live in Europe , so here it’s 1080i50
1080i60 HDV is native too.

Just choose Easy Setup. Choose HDV 1080i60
New project, save project
Log and capture.

This is native quality from the camera.
Doesn’t get any better.

What converter did you try then?

H264 to ProRes conversion works in:
Mpeg Streamclip
Compressor
FCP Log and transfer ( with canon FCP plugin and the THM metadata files)

What kind of FCP sequence?
Did you export quicktime movie with current settings before opening in Compressor?
It shouldn’t take this long. Even without Qmaster clustering.
