Can any, some, or all DVD players play a 24P file?
If so where is it found?
If I go to to project properties I can see a couple of references to 25P. But when I go to the render tab I see no 24p options on offer.
The reason that I thought these options might be policed is because you sometimes find some options preyed out.
Thanks in advance

September 22, 2010 at 8:45 am in reply to: Rendering too long & then strange error messageWhat I was trying to do was to create a standard DVD with MPEG2 files that were not interlaced. I now have this done. I have no idea as to why I had problems before. When you use DVDA & select optimize it tells you if the file needed to be re compressed & it says that it didn’t need to be done. It also tells me that the file will only take up a small portion of a single layer disk.
Why it took so long attempting to render out the menus & eventually stopped I don’t think that I shall ever know. The only thing that is different about my most recent successful attempt was that that I changed the thumbnail buttons back to still rather than animated. Perhaps the program hadn’t allowed for animated buttons to come from a progressive file.
Whenever I burn a disk of my own that consumes very little space I always include the extras file with jpegs taken at the same event or a trimmed copy of the Vegas input files along with the veg & dar files & often the picture that was burned onto the disk.
After creating the MPEG2 file & before I shut down Vegas I also tried to render out the project as MPEG4. The project had lots of jpegs of very good quality so I thought that I might like to see the same project looking even better. Sometimes I have had room on the DVD to include this sort of file as well. So I tried rendering out the project again using the same MPEG4 template I have used before but ever time I tried to create the file the program crashed after about 5 minutes.
Thanks in advance

September 19, 2010 at 2:45 am in reply to: Rendering too long & then strange error messageIf I rendered the file out as interlaced MPEG2 would or could the file that DVDA creates still be made progressive & if yes would this be a long rendering process?
Thanks in advance

I probably would have use the MPEG4 codec had I seen certain of what I see on offer under the codec tab. Maybe I’m selecting the wrong profile before selecting a codec. I was under the impression that the AVI tab would be where I should find codecs like H264.
I find the area of video rendering the most confusing. Perhaps because when I click on the codec tab I have a long list. On this list are a few codec that I know that I’ll use like AVI & Mpeg2, but also there are many that I’m certain if I knew just what they are I would prefer deleted from the list as I know that I will never use them.
It would be best never to see them on the list again. Then there are things like Mercalli profiles listed which I don’t think are really codec at all & perhaps should never have been on the list at all.
Should every codec that is on your PC be on the list or just the ones that Vegas is capable of using? Are all Vegas codec’s installed automatically? The reason that I ask Is because I have clicked on what I thought would be the MPEG4 codec & assumed that I had selected the wrong one because I see no options on any tab that supported anything larger than the standard 720×576 Pal.
Can you recommend any web site that specified just what each codec is? I have no idea as to what things like YUV refer to. Any help in this regard would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

One example would be if you double clip on a clip to select it & you wished to just zoom in from that view that occupies the entire screen down to something that rests against the bottom edge. To do this I just move the selection handle to make my selection zoom in. This zoom maintains the pictures original ratio. The new selection is now smaller but its located in the center of the original.
Because I want the bottom of my selection to touch the bottom edge of the frame I still have to drag the entire smaller selection down so that it touches the bottom. Once its touching the bottom edge I still might have to re size the selection to get the cropping correct. If the selection tool had allowed my new selection to snap to to any selected edge this whole process would have been easier. I hope that you can understand just what I’m about.
Thanks in advance

I had seen on the Prodad site that the requirements for its use included Windows 7 32 & 64 bit versions. Its only further down the page does it say that the Sony version is 32 bit only. Hopefully they will produce an appropriate version soon.
Thanks in advance

If I read everyone’s ideas correctly then I should be able to just install my existing copy of Vegas 8 onto a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit & it should work OK without any new drivers etc. It looks that I might not be gaining an extra speed my doing this but at least it work as well as it had done in the past. Correct?
Thanks in advance

I already have VideoReDo. I was always under the impression that VideoReDo goes a great job , but only if the MPEG2 clips have the same aspect ratio, bit rate etc. Is this not the case?
Thanks in advance

October 29, 2009 at 1:17 am in reply to: Where does Mercalli store new clip & how are they compressed>No and you wouldn’t want to. You should split the clips to have Mercalli only affect the parts that are shaky. Each analysis should be unique for the kind of shake that the event has, using a preset that is appropriate for the problem. This is the way to get the best results.< While I apprecieate your answer & understand the point your making it would be nice if one didn't have to make so many clicks every time just to invoke the plug in. Is there not some other way to activate a plug in say similar to the way one can paste attributes when using the pan crop tool? Thanks in advance
