I have a 10 minute project made up of JPEG’s & a few 720p MOV files. I wished to render it out at the highest possible quality & since I have both a PVR with USB input as well as media played both of which are capable of playing 1080p files. I rendering the file out using WMV codec

The entire file plays flawlessly as a preview on the time line as does the rendered out file does on my PC using windows media player. I copy the file to the usb drive & the first five minutes plays flawlessly as well. Five minutes in I loose the audio on both the PVR & media player. I’m at a loss as to why this should be so. Any ideas?

I notice that windows tells me that the bit rate for the file is 28718 kbps. Does this seem correct? The file size is 697 MB & runs for 10 minutes 32 seconds.

I had though of rendering the file our as some MPEG4 H264 type file, both of which can also be played by same machines but I find selection the correct codec very confusing.

    Thanks in advance

    A-I’d forget wmv…it’s a pita.
    B-render to 1280 x 720 @ 10Mbps in MP4 container, you’ll find it’ll play anywhere.

I probably would have use the MPEG4 codec had I seen certain of what I see on offer under the codec tab. Maybe I’m selecting the wrong profile before selecting a codec. I was under the impression that the AVI tab would be where I should find codecs like H264.

I find the area of video rendering the most confusing. Perhaps because when I click on the codec tab I have a long list. On this list are a few codec that I know that I’ll use like AVI & Mpeg2, but also there are many that I’m certain if I knew just what they are I would prefer deleted from the list as I know that I will never use them.

It would be best never to see them on the list again. Then there are things like Mercalli profiles listed which I don’t think are really codec at all & perhaps should never have been on the list at all.

Should every codec that is on your PC be on the list or just the ones that Vegas is capable of using? Are all Vegas codec’s installed automatically? The reason that I ask Is because I have clicked on what I thought would be the MPEG4 codec & assumed that I had selected the wrong one because I see no options on any tab that supported anything larger than the standard 720×576 Pal.

Can you recommend any web site that specified just what each codec is? I have no idea as to what things like YUV refer to. Any help in this regard would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
