  • Thanks for that reply. This should mean that I can assume that when I do my render, whether just one clip or a large project it will have the output resolution of the entire project, correct?

I’m also guessing that if you don’t like the results of the first scan & you do a second or third one that only the data for your last scan is used in project?

If you have several clips on the time line that need stabilizing does the program allow you to select more than one clip at a time for the scan?

    Thanks in advance

I’ve imported this codec & can see it in VirtualDub. I have compression set to that codec. I thought that I had saved my compression settings before logging of VD. I then processed a clip in Vegas 6 using the Deshaker script & VD. The new file is about 15 times the size of the original. How do I set this to work the way I would like it. Can the Windows AVI codec be used with VD?

    Thanks in advance

Thanks for that information. It’s working OK now. I’m still puzzled as to what was happening that before the clip could preview correctly yet be wrong when rendered out.

    Thanks in advance

July 24, 2009 at 8:09 am in reply to: Higher quality video without AVCHD

Thank you both for that information. You mentioned that there are a few good reasons to move up to HD. There are even a few more that you didn’t mention like the fact that can also record higher resolution stills. I often found that when I used a video camera to shoot DV that it was much easier to take stills that way. Even though the quality wasn’t anywhere near as great as my digital still camera I could always switch from video to stills & back again in seconds.

Neither of you mentioned that I should be shooting for Blue Ray when burning output. I have heard of people getting very good results when rendering out a video using higher quality codecs settings like those found in in WMV, Divx, XVID, H264 etc & then burning the file as a data disk. I’m guessing that I might only get about 20 minutes of top quality onto a single layer disk this way but its hard to know since I have never seen any comparison chart detailing quality & file size. In any event I have PVR that play almost any codec either from a disk or USB drive.

I don’t expect to ever see a consumer camcorder produce a disk anywhere as good as the best Blue Ray since the cameras have sensors & lenses that are too small. I have already done test HD slide shows rendered out using different codec’ & they look great on the large screen.

Are you saying that all AVCHD cameras don’t use tape & that HDV cameras do? I have never shot on any media other then tape. I suppose that recording to a HDD or flash card is OK as long as they don’t fail. The only problems with tape that I’m aware of is people either getting dirt on the recording heads or worse having the tape jam in the camera.

When the file is transferred from either of these sort of cameras whether its AVCHD or HDV does the file size remain the same or is it uncompressed at the time of transfer? If it doesn’t change then I have no problem since I already have a couple of terabytes of storage.

    Thanks in advance

Your probably correct. In the past 6 months we have seen pictures shown in wrong aspect ratio, no audio at all, surround sound film with only speakers turned on, wrong film etc etc etc.

The worst however was when we had viewed about 70% of a film & it suddenly started being displayed upside down & backwards.

    Thanks in advance

February 12, 2009 at 12:05 am in reply to: Net Framework possible problem

As stated I had deleted Version 2. After the last suggestion to used Windows update to get version 2 again. It said that it downloaded, but then says that it can’t be installed, no reason given. If I go to add/delete programs in control panel it shows as installed. If its really installed it hasn’t installed in a way the prevents the ATI error message. I guess that this is just all a Windows thing.

    Thanks in advance

February 10, 2009 at 5:48 am in reply to: Net Framework possible problem

I used Windows delete programs to remove Net Framework 2, then restarted Windows. The first message that I get is that Net Framework 2 is required to run ATI Catalyst Control Center. That is a program that I’m unfamiliar with but suspect that it has something to do with my graphics functions.

I thought that I would see if this fixed the Vegas problem but once it tried to open Vegas I got the message that ‘an error occurred when starting Vegas, the reason could not be determined.’ I then click the OK button & the box disappears. Whether or not I going to have a problem running Vegas like this I have no way of saying. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

This being the case then I should not have to uninstall version 2? If this is true then my problem must stem from elsewhere.

    Thanks in advance

Does this mean that I should try to delete version 2? I had thought that like most programs that these updates were accumulative.

    Thanks in advance

September 25, 2008 at 12:10 am in reply to: Create progressive scan DVD w/o rerendering

If I understand you correctly if I render out using 24P in Vegas then DVDA won’t re render. If this is the case then I’m still probably no better off doing this since the file imported into DVDA is probably poorer in quality, since Vegas would have had to convert my original 25FS PAL to 24P which I assume entails a quality loss. Is this correct?

    Thanks in advance
