  • I can set the project settings easily enough to desired resolution from the drop down list. The only setting doesn’t offer PAL as an option.

Then when it comes to rendering out a clip the original codec isn’t listed. I can manually change the render settings to desired resolution but the program doesn’t save it. I tried rendering a 5 sec clip but all I got was a AVI file which of coarse is huge. Any other ideas?

    Thanks in advance

I can’t believe that no one has ever done this?

I still have the the USB cable that came with camera. One end goes into side of camera just above the HDMI port. The other end of this cable is USB female. To plug into PC you need a USB male plug. I have several of these cords that are m/m. I have tried them all to no avail.

I have a friend that has the same camera & he can’t get either my or his camera to his PC. I have now tried the small utility for connecting but nothing happens.

Could I use the HDMI port to connect & transfer to the PC or failing this I might be able to record directly onto the timeline using Vegas?

One thing is for certain that this isn’t just an isolated incident, as evidenced by lots of other asking same/similar connection problems on the web & Sony’s response is mainly try this or that or that etc etc. I can’t even take the camera into a Sony shop here in town as they have all closed. Last month while in Singapore, before I had problem I went into their big new store where the staff that I talked to were unaware that Sony even made software.

    Thanks in advance

Your correct it was a typo.

As for the link for the other Sony utility I didn’t download it or even try to because it seems that the camera has other problems as well. I had been trying to get it to connect to PC using USB again but it would not do so. I checked the camera once again intending to check how many clips there were if I had been successful to do so I’d know approximately how much space I would do so.

As it turned out the screen isn’t displaying any video clips at all . Its as if the HDD got reformatted. I tried shooting a scene for playback. It appeared to be recording correctly but when I switched back to playback I had nothing. This probably means that the camera is now stuffed. If this did happen it will be the third Sony product that has failed recently.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Thanks in advance

I have looked at the list of Forums and I don’t see any for Sony cameras. What forum are you suggesting?

    Thanks in advance

I tried installing the ‘Play Memories’ software on both a Windows 10 & an Windows 7 & neither would work. From what I reading on the web it isn’t working for many others as well.

I have managed to get the video files off the Camera by just plugging a WD Passport drive into camera. I had tried connecting the camera straight to my PS’s & settings cameras output to USB but that didn’t work for on either PC. I can see all of the thumbnails on PC for each clip in Windows Explorer but the only date displayed is the set to time it was copied to PC. I have tried turning an all of the other relevant columns that Windows should display like date take, camera model. etc etc but they all appear blank.

I do have a small workaround. I have compared the cameras thumbnail to the files copied onto PC & make a note of first & last file number for each day. I then import each of the files into Photoshop Elements where I can select the files for each day & reset the date name for each file. I don’t get to know the time however but at least its a start.

  • As it turns out maybe all of this effort is going to be for nothing. I can see the signal on the screen I can hear it now but what I’m hearing when playing it back appears to me to be a bit slow so it makes me think that perhaps the belt on this old phonograph is slipping and if that’s the case other than replacing the belt I don’t think I could speed it up to make it plays an acceptable level.

    Thanks in advance

  • Thanks for the video. I eventually got it sorted out even though the video wasn’t in English. Now all I have to do is be certain that the recording level isn’t too high. It appears that its just a slider with a mic on it even & I was expecting something that allowed me to see a level by nominating DB’s.

    Thanks in advance

  • Thanks for the reply. I have been playing around with the audio settings as you suggested but so far I have yet to hit the one which allows for me to hear the audio as it’s being recorded. As I said I can get the wave forms to appear in Vegas as I press the arm for record buttons. I suspect that the little samples that I have recorded so far are clipped because I haven’t located so far where I turn it down. I’ll continue to play with this on and off as I get time. A fiend suggests that I download a free program called Audacity but this would probably have a steeper learning curve with it as I am totally unfamiliar with it.

    Thanks in advance
