I forgot to attach file information from DVD. I opened the disk on PC using VLC player then asked for the details.
Type:video
Codec MPEG -1/2 video (mpgv)
Resolution 720×480
Display resolution 720×480
Frame Rate 29.70029Audio Codec A52 Audio (aka AC3) (a52)
This followed with subtitle data etc
The resolution & frame rate suggests to me its NTFS
Thanks in advance

I have had many DVD players since they were introduced here in OZ decades ago. Even though I have had Sony, Nation-Panasonic,Akai & Samsung stand alone players as well as 2 built into my PVR’s I have never encountered any that could not play both PAL & NTFS. The only time I had anything to do with NTFS was when relatives visited down under & I shot a video for them which I rendered out using Vegas as NTFS for use Canada & this copy to would play on any machine I wanted.
Perhaps its all about the control that the large companies try to put in place for releasing new videos in different countries. I have played DVD’s on my PC & only once have I been asked if I wished to set the player to a different zone. So maybe this sort of DVD would play in North America if they had imported their DVD player from elsewhere in the world instead of purchasing NTFS only machines.
Thanks in advance

April 25, 2016 at 2:41 am in reply to: Quicktime vulnerable? What does this mean for Sony Vegas and .MOV files? What I ended up trying was to open the .MOV files in Handbrake where I selected the profile & saved them as MP4. The resulting files open in Vegas OK.
Thanks in advance

April 20, 2016 at 2:10 am in reply to: Quicktime vulnerable? What does this mean for Sony Vegas and .MOV files?I thought that I should check my old footage & I managed to find a few old MOV files. I can’t open them in Vegas so I’m assuming that I don’t have the correct codec installed.
Do you know where I can get free codec just so that I can convert these old file. I’m suspicious about most sites that offer anything free since it’s often loaded with crap ware or worse.
Thanks in advance

I have a friend who tells me that he has almost the same settup choices. We compared them all. We opted out of almost every conceivable option in Windows 10. He doesn’t have the problem with playback using Vegas that I’m experiencing. It had a clean install of Windows 10 & ever since nothing but problems so it appears that the problem must be elsewhere. I fix one problem then there are more Windows updates and things go mad again. For instance in Explorer (This PC) there are no dividers for columns across the right hand side & you cant see the drop down arrow that allows you to see other column features.
Thanks for the suggestions/comments.
Thanks in advance

I have just booted up the machine then pressed CTRL,ALT,DEL & this time it shows 56 items running plus 24 processes. I don’t know if this is normal but its been suggested to me that it isn’t. I know that I set some of the things on the list to be ignored like Cortana. I have never uploaded any photo’s to this site before I hope that I’m doing it OK. The list is so long it’s on 3 snips.
Thanks in advance

March 26, 2016 at 8:11 am in reply to: Windows 10 renaming drives and confusing Sony VegasAm I correct in assuming that you used ‘Device Manager’ to change drive letters? Should I be able to assign my CD & Blu-ray burners as Y & Z first?
Thanks in advance

March 23, 2016 at 4:27 am in reply to: Windows 10 renaming drives and confusing Sony VegasI have a couple of WD passport portable drives both USB2 & 3. My friend has the same. I also have a USB3 hub that supports 3 x USB3 & 4 x USB2 connections. I plugged this is & here is what happened.
If I plugged in 1 at a time & them removed it they were all called drive ‘H’.
If I plugged then in one at a time the first one was called ‘H’ & the others that follower up were assigned letters higher up the alphabet. One drive was labelled ‘Red’ because I gave it that label a few years back.
I have both a CD Burner & a Blu-Ray Burner which are labelled ‘D’ & ‘E’. In Windows 7 I had these called ‘Y’ & ‘Z’ because you then always knew what they were.
I plugged in a USB 3 card reader & Windows displayed 5 new drives, only 1 of which has data. I eventually plugged in more devices 1 at a time phone, tablets & TV remote & these seemed to work OK.
So as I said Windows 10 USB functions aren’t working properly. Not only is every drive being called ‘H’ it never remembers what to do when USB’s are plugged in & if I had also nominated what program to open it with it doesn’t ever recall.
Thanks in advance

March 22, 2016 at 1:11 am in reply to: Windows 10 renaming drives and confusing Sony VegasMy experience is even worse with USB & Windows 10 even after clean installs. I plug something into a USB port & it asks me what I would like to do with it next time but it NEVER remembers anytime or which sort of file is opened with what program.
If I go to Explorer now called “This PC” It sometimes takes a few minutes before a newly plugged in drive even causes the PC to make a sound & then more time for the drive to appear on the left hand side. On the right hand side of the screen where you would normally see the details about file type, size date etc nothing is displayed. I can’t even get the vertical dividers to appear that separate the columns.
The PC has had thorough diagnostic checks down by myself & at the shop & no problems are ever found. It’s not uncommon to plug in a drive like a WD passport for it to say that the drive has problems & must be scanned to apply fixes. Once it’s done it’s scan it reports that no problems were ever found.
Thanks in advance

I was reinstalling every program after doing a clean install of Windows. Your comment caused me to look at this thing in more detail & I think it came from old version of DVDA which I have since deleted since I have the latest version installed.
As for Quicktime I have no idea.
Thanks
Thanks in advance
