When I try to start up Vegas 6, I keep getting an unknown error message. From what I have seen on forums I suspect that this might be something to do with Microsofts Net Framework which I understand is a prerequisite for running Vegas. I did a check to see what versions that I have installed as suggested by Microsofts web site. It seems that I have versions 1.0.3705, 1.14322 & 2,050727.

Windows update is now suggesting that I need version 3.5.

Do I really need this or would I be better of deleting or reinstalling the previous versions?

    Thanks in advance

For Vegas 6 you need .net framework 1.1

Does this mean that I should try to delete version 2? I had thought that like most programs that these updates were accumulative.

    Thanks in advance

Only if you have no other programs that require it. Vegas 6 does not.

Not only are the not cumulative but they are not upward compatible either meaning you can’t run .Net 1.1 programs on 2.0; you need to still have 1.1 installed.

This being the case then I should not have to uninstall version 2? If this is true then my problem must stem from elsewhere.

    Thanks in advance

Just load 1.1 and don’t worry about the other versions.

I used Windows delete programs to remove Net Framework 2, then restarted Windows. The first message that I get is that Net Framework 2 is required to run ATI Catalyst Control Center. That is a program that I’m unfamiliar with but suspect that it has something to do with my graphics functions.

I thought that I would see if this fixed the Vegas problem but once it tried to open Vegas I got the message that ‘an error occurred when starting Vegas, the reason could not be determined.’ I then click the OK button & the box disappears. Whether or not I going to have a problem running Vegas like this I have no way of saying. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

The .Net Framework is simply a run-time library that sits on your hard drive until some application uses it. It does not actively run on your computer and there is no harm in installing it. I would install .Net 1.0, & 1.1 for Vegas, and 2.0 for ATI. Then see if that clears up the problem. If not, re-install Vegas 6 now that all the .Net software is re-installed.

As stated I had deleted Version 2. After the last suggestion to used Windows update to get version 2 again. It said that it downloaded, but then says that it can’t be installed, no reason given. If I go to add/delete programs in control panel it shows as installed. If its really installed it hasn’t installed in a way the prevents the ATI error message. I guess that this is just all a Windows thing.

    Thanks in advance
