FireWire SDK 20 contains a number of new and updated tools including FireBug, FireCracker, PhyTool, FWBusyBus, FWPlugOMatic, and AVCBrowser. It also contains source for a new AV/C DV & MPEG2 streaming framework called AVCVideoServices, and example projects which use this new framework, including an updated version of VirtualDVHS.”

[Tim Kolb] “***My one question on Production Studio is whether or not this piece of software that is displacing Audition will be worth its salt”Hi
The Healing Tool in Soundbooth looks really really cool in the demo I saw – allowing you to graphically excise any nasty intrusive sound elements… -

[Becker] “and second :”
In effect you need two seperate mixers – one for the microphone into your computer, and another to mix the computer’s output with a feed from the mic mixer of the VO, back to the VO artist’s headphones.Bigger mixers have the facility to be ‘split’ like this.
Maybe this small unit will do the same?

Hi
LOL. I give up on this metrification business! 2 feet in front of the monitors…. -
Hi
“Give me a child until he is seven and I will give you the man.” Jesuit adage.
“Give me a child from eight to fourteen, and we have them for life.” Microsoft maxim. 😉[Peter Corbett] “There is brilliant and mediocre work done on both Windows and Apple-based NLE’s.”
Indeed, from a distant, accountant’s or executive producer’s, perspective that is so.From the ‘coal-face’, from day-in-day-out being 600cm in front of the monitor screens, there is much more to the experience.
I couldn’t put in the long hours as readily if I worked with a Microsoft GUI, and Window’s hardware management – my motto 🙂
I wouldn’t be able to put in the long unbroken editing hours if I had to maintain a Windows system, as I’ve single-handedly managed my Mac edit suites since 1993.:-)
My inadequacy I know, not understanding Window’s Registry etc etc, and not remembering what I do get told about it 🙁But I don’t need to understand my Macs underlying technology – thankfully. I can just get on with editing….
Coping with Final Cut Suite + Shake + GarageBand/Logic is *plenty* to keep me busy for the moment!!! 🙂 -
[Rajarshi] “I am very much inclined towards the Adobe Production Studio, because of the dynamic link factor”
Hi
Earlier this week I saw the Mac version of Premiere Pro, and Adobe’s v3 Production studio, demonstrated on a MacBook Pro.Only a very limited feature set was allowed to be shown, and I was interested that whilst firing up Bridge and Dynamic Link the demonstrator structured in a carefully timed drink-a-bottle-of-water break whilst the software prepared itself 😉
No doubt by the time it ships things won’t be so sluggish, and I didn’t see anything in the demo of what Dynamic Link does that Apple’s FCP<>Motion, Shake, or Soundtrack Pro doesn’t already do with its round-trip project interchange…
However the fact that there is now direct and equivalent competition between both suites of software is bound to be good! 🙂
Apple will need versions new of all its Pro apps at NAB, or soon after, if it is to remain ahead of Adobe’s game… -
Hi
Tou’re mixing your metaphors here 😉
5.1 AC3 audio is a DVD-only format, and is either multiplexed onto a playable DVD-Video, or stored on hard drive or DVD-ROM as data.DigiBeta takes audio files on its 4 tracks in straightforward PCM digital format, which is different to the AC3 file format.
Final Cut Pro doesn’t allow the import of an AC3 5.1 audio track, so you can’t put it onto digibeta by Editing to Tape.To put surround audio into a conventional video file format you have to use the Dolby Pro-Logic system, which is a pseudo-surround arrangement, depending on subtle phase relationships within a conventional PCM stereo audio track.

[Steven L. Gotz] “Is there a decent FCP forum run by Apple, or on an Apple supported site?”
Hi
Yes indeed, and a lot of the FCP experts here at the Cow have huge post counts there. 🙂

Hi
I’ve today seen Adobe’s London Videoforum premiere demonstration of Premiere Pro for Intel Mac.
It looks very good, though I wasn’t allowed to see it demonstrated beyond beyong the rather superficial look at Dynamic Link/Bridge with AE and Illustrator 🙁As a Mac video editor since 1993 I used Premiere from version 3.1.3 to 6.5, and when Adobe failed to debug that for OS X, I migrated to Final Cut Pro.
A whole LOT of AE and Photoshop Mac graphics people are going to use PPro for Mac when it ships with Intel versions of their key applications – and Apple won’t be selling Final Cut to that sort of user any more…
Competition with undoubtedly be really good and stimulating for both sides 🙂
Part of the popularity of web forums for Mac users is that since all Macs are more or less the same hardware-wise, it is much easier to help other people resolve their user problems at a distance.
But in the distant pre-FCP days Premiere forums were very lively and full of postings – it was sort of a pioneering era and we all wanted to help each other… LOL
I would guess that Premiere Pro lost a lot of higher-end users when it was announced as v7/v1, as it was palpably not capable of fulfilling a lot of ‘professional’ editing requirements at that stage of development.
Also a LOT of serious consumer or pro-sumer users in the UK have stuck with Premiere v6/6.5, especially those using Canopus Storm hardware. So they are much less likely to come to a PPro forum for assistance.

February 5, 2007 at 9:40 pm in reply to: How to generate SC MOV with WAV audio track instead of AIFF audio track?Hi
Once you’ve exported your self-contained .mov with an aiff audio track, use QuickTime Pro to open the movie, and export a wav of the audio.
Then use QT Pro to delete the aiff audio track, open the wav audio track and copy it all.
Then in QT Edit>Add Scaled the wav track to your video movie.I haven’t tried it, but that’s the theory – I don’t know if it’ll work 😉
