Premier for Mac upgrade

Adobe has not announced the policy yet, but my guess is that they will allow you to use a previous PC purchase toward upgrading to the Mac version. I doubt, however, that “low cost” will be the right word for it.

Adobe does not care how many parts of the bundle you already own. If you own Photoshop you get the same break as someone who has Photoshop, After Effects Standard and Flash.

In fact, if you had every product that made up a bundle, you still could not get an upgrade to the bundle for the same price as someone with the actual bundle. And the bundle must be purchased in order to get at least one of the cool features (Dynamic Link).

Poor marketing if you ask me.

Hi, thanks for your reply, even tho it’s bad news! I don’t have a previous PC version of Premier as I used it for my ex-employers.

I really cannot believe that I can’t get a decent price upgrade to all the software without having the ‘bundle’ when the ‘bundle’ was not compatible with my machine when I bought it.

For the sake of Adobe not announcing they were working on a Pemier Pro for Mac until recently, I have lost out on:
1. time/workflow learning a new system,
2. cheaper upgrades, and intel binaries
3. Dynamic Link

“Poor marketing’ and basically ripping off a loyal and future customer who has gone to the effort to buy the software and gets nothing in return, no wonder so many people use illegal software when thet treat people like this.

Well…let’s withhold the speaking of “ripoffs” until you know what the prices are…

Keep in mind that 5-6 years ago, After Effects Production version cost almost 2,000 dollars…now that buys all the software programs together.

As someone who owned two Media 100s…total investment about $100,000 USD at a time when a 9 Gig harddrive (those were the really big ones then) cost almost $4,000 USD.

These tools are as cheap as they’ve ever been and growing in capability faster than ever before. Whether or not you can afford the stuff and whether or not it’s a justified price for the product are two different discussions.

While I do sympathize with an independent like myself trying to make a living, being around for 20 years at this and seeing 20 years of head-spinning drops in prices and equally head-spinning increases in power affect my opinions on this matter.

The pricing for the Production Studio is justified 5 times over, and Adobe’s upgrade system is designed to get everyone into the bundles as cleanly as possible. While they do not add together multiple discounts for multiple packages owned, the discounts are very aggressive and end up being an amazing deal when you look at upgrading one package to 4 or 6.

Sorry for the attitude, but as someone who has seen this technology evolve from the early 90’s, I just don’t see any reason for anyone to whine about pricing.

The Healing Tool in Soundbooth looks really really cool in the demo I saw – allowing you to graphically excise any nasty intrusive sound elements…

My concern is the ammount of available trks, I could be wrong but it appears soundbooth is a two trk stereo APP, I just went to expense to setup a portable DAW for multi-trk suround recording which works fine with the Production Studio’s Audition 2, plus which has Rewire capability so I can interact with other sound APPs like Live and Cubase, If I have to purchase Audition separately and the current Ppro + addon software appears to take care of most of what I want, I would have to take a hard look at upgrading the Production Studio and just maybe upgrade Audition, when the old swiss army knife still works I see no percentage in upgrading to a newer one blade less model.
