You’ll have to make sure the clip names are the same so that it knows what to refer back to. The files will end up being offline in FCP, so from there you’ll have to Log and Transfer with the NATIVE setting checked so it “rewraps” the r3d into the .mov wrapper, thus maintaining the RAW format and controls.

Be sure to check the maximum bit depth, as sometimes (unlike in After Effects) it doesn’t say “millions of colors+.” That should do it.

Yes you can do that and it works. Export an XML from Final Cut, import into Premiere, then export an AAF file into Avid. You can also do the reverse. Premiere CS5 now has the ability to export Final Cut Pro XML files, so you can bring in your Avid project, and export it to FCP through Premiere CS5.

May 10, 2010 at 6:35 pm in reply to: Can I import a Premiere CS3 Project into Premier CS5?You can open the CS3 project file in CS5, and it will create a copy and save it in the new CS5 format. It won’t touch your original CS3 copy. From there, you can make changes in CS5.

Everything is a lot faster. Even straight out of the box with no GPU, things render faster and are a lot more stable. Definitely worth the upgrade if you work in Premiere and AE a lot.

The software isn’t out yet but I can’t really say there is anything negative about the Mercury Playback Engine. I mean, it allows realtime performance. There’s no way that could be bad! =)

I’m sorry, but when does this start shipping? I heard a rumored release of July but I’m not sure how truthful that is. I’ll be prepping and making the necessary hardware adjustments in order to run Resolve properly.

Wait, I’m confused. Isn’t the GTX285 1/3 the price of the Quadro FX 4800?

You’re on a Mac, aren’t you? Check your scopes, but if you’re on a Mac, rendering to h.264 can sometimes have that effect. There are ways around it but before we get into it, let me know if you’re on a Mac or PC.

Hi Tim,
Yeah I agree with you 100%. We run an Axio LE here on our PC system and even though it’s pretty awesome how it accelerates stuff, it’s only for Matrox specific timelines. Mercury will accelerate everything, any timeline. It almost seems that instead of investing in an Axio LE, one should get a FX 4800 or 5800 AND an MXO2/LE/Mini (depending on their needs) and use both of those in tandem instead of just the Axio.
