I am sorry if this was already discussed. I did a search on CS5 and didn’t find it. But …

I am an Adobe Master Suite CS4 user. I am very happy. Everything works just fine. Some extra speed would always be nice, of course. But the system is stable and everything works.

Ordinarily I like to wait for awhile before a major upgrade. What’s the verdict on CS5? Is it stable? Or should I wait until they work out bugs?

And, if I do upgrade, which video card should I buy (for a brand new i7 64-bit Windows 7 machine with 12GB ram)?

To keep things in perspective, all the following comments are from a long time Avid DS and short time FCP editor…

Major upgrade! Stable as a rock! I created a second boot drive, installed Snow Leopard and then CS5. Smooth installation. Fast as hell with PP and AE. The only thing that I found that sucks so far is Soundbooth. As a professional I still will edit at facilities with Avid and FCP since they arent gloing anywhere. But I bet this stellar release got Apples attnetion.

I would also add that if you do a lot of work with AVCHD and those types of HD formats, Premiere CS5 is a must. I have a Nvidia Quadro 3800 card and editing AVCHD footage with it is almost as fast as working with DV footage. Not quite as fast, but I imagine with the higher end GPUs it would be.

I also have a AE HD project that literally rendered 10x faster than with the CS4 version.

Everything is a lot faster. Even straight out of the box with no GPU, things render faster and are a lot more stable. Definitely worth the upgrade if you work in Premiere and AE a lot.
