  • Hello Joakim,
the VHS records composite video on tape. For this reason using a S-Video or Component out can’t improve video quality, but one more conversion (composite to S-Video) made by the VCR may degradate more the image.
If your tape was S-VHS, S-video is recorded on tape, and S-Video is required to get the best quality.
BetacamSP records Component on tape, and to get the best you’d use the component YUV output.

In the real world things may be different, if your capture device has a bad composite input but good Y/C and YUV ones only.
    Best Regards,

July 26, 2012 at 12:58 pm in reply to: Anyone using CF Recorders with XHA1?

    Hello Chas,
I confirm Joel comment; we are using 2 Datavideo DN-60 with an XH-A1 and XH-A1S; good price and good performances. A firmware update added a feature we needed (the auto BIN advance).
We hadn’t problems but we will always use the tape as backup (you can gang tape and file stap/stop recording).
Be careful, it works with Sandisk CF only (we are using Extreme 60MBps).

  • Hello Colin,
I’m happy that you solved your problems, but I confirm that the Intensity Shuttle works on the integrated ports of my Asus P9X79.

    Hello Robert,
have you tried adding a TBC between the VHS VTR and the Decklink? If you don’t have one (maybe one manufactured by the wonderful DPS Digital Processing Systems), you could use a DVD recorder (usually all Panasonic ones have it) or other devices that may have an integrated TBC.

July 23, 2012 at 12:05 pm in reply to: Decklink Duo – only one card

    Hello Yossi,
have you tried one card per time? Do they work both ones (and both channels) using them as single cards? Is your mainboard one of the suggested ones (or using X58/X79 chipset).
With recent drivers I can get multiple card setups working except with Decklink Extreme 2. With 9.5 (and 9.5.2)I can use in the same PC 2x Decklink STudio 2, 2x Intensity Shuttle and 1 Decklink HD Extreme 2 (I have another one, but the second One is not accessible by Mediaexpress and any other software).

    Best Regards,

    Hello Andrew,
since you’re using TRS jacks, your problem is probably at the other wire end (TRS too? Each TRS going into a mono balanced Input like ch.3 and 4 or 5/6?)

    Ciao,

July 13, 2012 at 9:57 am in reply to: Recommended cf card for canon xf100.

    Hello Stacey,
please note that CF vendors usually express CF speed in MBps so a 45MBps CF supports 360Mbps.

Returning to your need, I’m using successfully Sandisk Extreme 32GB, part number SDCFX-032G-X46, and Transcend 400X part number TS32GCF400 (read 90MBps, write 60MBps).

Be careful, there are lots of fake memory modules; many friends of mine bought Sandisk memories very similar outside but very different inside…
You can make a quick test to see if the CF meets the requirements of the Canon XF series. Set recording data rate to 50Mbps and record a long clip. Usually fake CFs aren’t fast enought to stop and restart record reaching the 4GB limit and the camera will report an error (and some seconds of recording will be lost).

    Hope it helps,

    Hello Hugo,
if you take a look into BMD Resolve system specs, you will find that they suggest the Asus P9X79 PRO (and I can confirm that the standard P9X79 works too). The Intel may work, but if you’re in time, switch to an Asus one to avoid problems.

🙂 Thank you for sharing your success!
I just installed a new BIOS on the P8H67-M EVO (of my home PC), maybe it will work for me too.
    Cheers,

    Hi,
I never used it with an AMD, and I think there is no literature from BMD confirming it, but some months ago there were one or more other guys that wrote that they were using the Shuttle (successfully) with AMD Phenom II CPUs.
    Hope it helps,
