April 30, 2015 at 5:39 pm in reply to: Why buy a BMPC today when the Ursa mini is the same price?Hi Philippe,
maybe because today the URSA Mini is not yet available, so if “TODAY” you need a cinema camera… Production 4K or URSA v.1.0 (or Arri Alexa) 🙂

Hi,
A couple of weeks ago when I was making a demo of ivsEdits at the JVC booth in a trade show, the local representative of Atomos asked me to read some files recorded by the shogun and an LS300, both HD and UHD. The 4k ones had a bitrate of about 800Mbps and I was able to read them without problems. I don’t know if they used SDI or HDMI.
Best Regards,Paolo

March 27, 2015 at 9:18 am in reply to: JVC GY HD250- Need a 1080p Hard disk or Solid State Recorder SolutionHi Johnny,
camera bodies can’t be upgraded to 4K. You would need new studio cameras. I think that JVC will realease new ones at the NAB.About the recorder, AJA KiPro are very expansive, for your need a BMD Hyperdeck shuttle would be nice. It supports several options for recording, and uses a standard SSD drive as storage unit, so very cheap and fast at the same time. They offer the best price per GB and the best price per performace.
Be careful to used units, there are two models and the first one, discontinued, can record uncompressed only.
Best Regards,
Paolo

September 12, 2014 at 5:01 pm in reply to: Anyone had any experiencefor Axel You PlayHi Neil,
Axel Technology Youplay is a well designed contribution player designed to playback most kind of files with all the options that you may require. It exists in a free version but the professional versions may be expansive.
I think it is based on FFmpg so it should be able to playback all the most used file formats (I had a demo version for a couple of months and it was able to playback all of my files).Best Regards,

September 11, 2014 at 12:49 pm in reply to: Anyone had any experiencefor Axel You PlayHi,
many playout systems doesn’t allow to route the audio to the sound card because it may introduce A/V out of sync. If you want to de-embed the audio, there are several options.
The best one would be to use another BMD card like Decklink Studio 2 or 4K that has all the A/V outputs you may need.
If you want to use the Decklink Mini Monitor, how many audio channels you may need to de-embed?

Hi Bill,
I think that, now, Blackmagic doesn’t support the Ultrastudio SDI on MAC. If you take a look at this page https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/ultrastudiousb3/techspecs/ you will see that the only supported OS are Windows 7 64-bit or better ( and many people think that there is no better Windows than 7 🙂

December 9, 2013 at 6:52 pm in reply to: Can anyone Recommend a Quicktime HD recorder?Hello Steven,
I use it on a PC, but yes, you can capture to the same Mac you are using to control the Atem TVS; you just have to plug both Ethernet and USB 2.0 cables between your MAC/ATEM, and you can start/stop capture using the bundled Blackmagic Media Express software.

December 2, 2013 at 11:17 pm in reply to: Can anyone Recommend a Quicktime HD recorder?Hello Steve,
I think that you can solve all of your problems using a single codec for both classrooms, i.e. Prores HQ. High quality and compressed. I don’t use iMovie, but I remember a post that if you install the tryout version of FinalCut Pro X, it will install the codec to support Prores into iMovie.I asked you about the control because I don’t know if you are aware that you don’t need the Panasonic recorder, because the Atem TVS records H264 video, up to 25Mbps, thanks to an hardware H264 encoder. You’d just have to plug the USB cable between it and your laptop and you’re ready to capture using Media Express or any other software that supports the Atem.
Best Regards,
