    Hi Walter,

It’s a Dual 2.5GHz G5 with 4GB of Ram, so I don’t think that’s the issue, and I’m rendering to fairly fast scsi drives. Getting a tad frustrated by it now!
    Thanks

Gary you said: “you most likely do not have enough room on the volume you are rendering too”

I have plenty of room, as I said it happens even when I switch render drives.

At the moment I am using the Photo-JPEG codec as my sequence as an offline, but this has happened in 8 bit sequences as well, and I always have my video processing set to render in 8bit. The card is a Kona LH but this problem also occurred with our old Cinewave card.

    Thanks

Sorry, I forgot to add that I am using a Kona 2 card. I’ve also just onlined a programme from offline DVPAL to 8bit Uncompressed and that had the same issue, but if I changed the timeline from upper to lower field no rendering was needed. Is the Kona doing something behind the scenes-I’m confused?

  • David,

Yes I had already tried that after somebody else suggested it on the FCP forum, but I had the same issues. I’ve still got it set to Ref in and it has been fine, but should it be set to Freerun?

  • David,

Yes I was getting channel condition errors on the deck when performing a lay off, however in the Kona LH control panel in the control tab, the genlock was set to freerun, I’ve now changed it to ref in, and the problem seems to have gone away. It’s just strange that I was having the same problem with the old Cinewave card!?

    Anyway thanks for your response.

    Jeff,

It just seems a little draconian to me. The Cow has always been a forum for discussion, I didn’t think it was necessarily dedicated to technical issues. That said most of the particular thread in question was centred on what improvements people would like to see e.g. a proper offline to online workflow, and therefore one could argue that it was of a technical nature. So maybe there was some speculation that there may be a new release at NAB, but I wouldn’t call that a hot rumour, is there anyone out there who doesn’t think that Apple will release a new improved version at the end of April-after all it has been a year since the last major update?

And since when was it wise not to listen to its users with regards to improvements, they have made the committment in so far as purchasing and it is they who use the software every day. I remember a few years ago when Media100 users were desperate for certain changes, but their requests fell on stoney ground.

    Anyway heres hoping

    Jeff,

Yeah I know that Apple may or may not release an update at NAB, basically this subject was covered last week in a series of posts with the same subject name. And what I was asking was why has that thread been erased from the forum?! Seems like a bit of a violation to me?

  • Thanks for the response. I have tried dubbing from another deck and that laid the sound down fine. I have also tried it with the video out disconnected from the digibeta going to the Kona, the reference is from a black and burst and is fine. I have tried simply crashing the programme to tape and that also gives me a clear audio signal, therefore it would seem there is some issue with the edit to tape function. As I have said we have just swapped our Cinewave card for the Kona LH and we have the same issue. FCP has been reinstalled, preferences have been trashed, anyone have any more ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot Bryce for that hot tip.
