  • Yup, I had 2K output via dual-link HD-SDI. The Decklink HD Extreme 3D supports 2K output.

Heck.. that way you could make a bunch of looks prior to a client session and give the iPad to the client. “Which one do you like?” *tap* Even though the funky gadget clearly is branded Apple iPad, the client goes “wooooow, no other colorist has this. What is this thing?”…

    Would be fun 🙂

I’m interested.. What does that mean? Manipulating color in log style?

  • Thanks guys.

That’s what I’ve said too when potential clients ask “how much time do you need to grade a 75 minute film?”. So far I’ve said “about…” and given a number of given weeks, with 8 hours a day, five days a week.

That would include everything from loading all source material to my RAID, to prepping the timeline and doing the actual grading process, rendering and checking against the offline to see if everything is in sync.

Some have been worried that “that’s an awful long period”, others have been welcoming about the time spent, and would possibly want to spend more time “just in case”. This is for commercials and music videos though, with a lot less going on.

My most demanding job so far was to grade 570+ scenes in 8 hours. That included downloading 10GB of material, slicing it up with Scene cut detection and all that.. But I did it. And I would like to relax a tad more when I’m doing “fine arts” with a feature film.

  • Most likely, I’ll be getting a FCP project file with Prores or R3D files needed for the sequence. Possibly all source material in case of a re-edit.

I was referring to 4K DPX. That would need a fast RAID. Haven’t tried 4K Prores though.

What is your setup? What CPU is in your Mac? And what GPU? I’d guess it’s a matter of GPU really.

That said, you’d need a RAID with fast reading speeds for DPX to play smooth.

I wouldn’t mind having “reset rotary knob” with the SHIFT+R1/B1. If it’s possible to do, I don’t know.

  • There’s two ways to give you a “heads up”.

    – In the Config page, under the Settings tab. Mark “Show the current frame in the master session”. So when you adjust a clip in the cut timeline, jump back to Conform, you will see the playline over the clip you’ve adjusted.

    – Right-click in the edited timeline and select “Locate in Master session”.

I tried doing this. For instance SHIFT+R1 to reset the GAIN rotary knob. Nothing happens. Nor does anything happen in any other of the pages if I hit SHIFT+R1/B1.

I have the grey 1st gen. without reset buttons for rotary knobs obviously.
