    Hi!.
I have problems with realtime playback. What I need for realtime?, it’s computer or workflow?

    My workflow:

    4k ProRes444 playback, out to HD 1920×1080 25psf
No problems with 3 Nodes with blur, but I need at least 6 nodes Playback realtime.

    My computer:
    MacPro 12 Cores 2,93GHZ. GT120 GTX285. Resolve 7.1.1

Notes: I have problems (resolve crash) rendering from 4k RAW FULL to 4k ProRes444, is this normal?. I don’t have any problem with 4K DPX.

    Thanks so much!.

    Jose.

    Its work flow really.

Do you really need to grade wiu 4k images, I expect not.
Make you self some 2k or hd proxies, then get into serious realtime grading, once your done render out your from your 4k raw if you really need to,

Use your proxy manager and make 2k proxies

Even with a 4gpu Linux system with a bright San you’d be pushing your luck expecting real time 4k,

Also FYI, if you don’t need prorez 4444 for any other reason, then choose dpx as your intermediate or go between file format. Resolve works most efficiently with dpx on both Mac and Linux system.

    Cheers

That said, you’d need a RAID with fast reading speeds for DPX to play smooth.

No problem with my disks. 4k ProRes is about 100MB/s. I prefer Prores than DPX, because DPX4K is too big.

I have no problem with 3 nodes, but i need more than 3.

Why 4K playback… easy… I need to scale some clips, and I prefer to have a 4k Master than only HD, for future releases.

    Why not r3d + rocket?.
    – Keys. I need prores with some more matte layers.
    – 4kProres is a lot faster than r3d full.

    Jose.

I was referring to 4K DPX. That would need a fast RAID. Haven’t tried 4K Prores though.

What is your setup? What CPU is in your Mac? And what GPU? I’d guess it’s a matter of GPU really.

Charlie is correct, you can make a 2K proxy on Resolve and because our the optical quality resizing its suitable for grading and output. Use the proxy manager to make a 2K proxy; grade with the proxy button ‘on’ then when you wish to render turn the proxy off and preview full res.
While ProRes 4K may be only 100MB on disk, Resolve needs RGB for every pixel for every frame so internally you are trying to decode the 4K ProRes and process. Tough ask on the Mac with the current OS.
Are you starting with ProRes4K or r3d as this changes the situation too.
Ultimately, if its node limits you have, add another GPU. For ProRes material you can use two for image processing.
