  • Rendering clips from ‘Current’ or ‘Master’ Session

I have a show with around 1200 shots. I media managed it in FCP (with handles) and took all the clips into Resolve. I then loaded an EDL of the cut ‘Ep1 Cut1.’ I graded the show then switched from ‘Ep1 Cut 1’ session to ‘Master Session’ and rendered out the clips in source mode. Everything relinked in FCP – so far so good.

Now after a screening I have some notes to tweak shots at specific timecodes. Eg: 10:02:34:20 – shot looks a little cool. So I go to my ‘Ep 1 Cut1’ session and adjust the grade but if I render it from here in source mode the clip is only the duration it is in the cut – no handles. So I guess I need to render it from the Master Session, but how do I find it amongst 1200 other clips?

If I have a shot selected in the current session is there a way to automatically find the clip in the Master Session? Is there is a way to mark the revised grades in the current session and then render them out from the Master Session?

Or is there a way to add the revised clips from the current session to render queue and have it render out the clips in source mode with the same durations as the original clips?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Brendan

There’s two ways to give you a “heads up”.

    – In the Config page, under the Settings tab. Mark “Show the current frame in the master session”. So when you adjust a clip in the cut timeline, jump back to Conform, you will see the playline over the clip you’ve adjusted.

    – Right-click in the edited timeline and select “Locate in Master session”.

Thanks! This works really well for fixing up the odd shot here but what if a whole bunch of shots need to be revised? Its quite a tedious process selecting the revised clip, switching to the master session, open the render window, mark in, mark out and add to render queue – one clip at a time.

I was hoping the workflow would be something simple like: Adjust the grade and choose ‘add source clip to render queue.’ Or perhaps add it to a group and have the option of rendering just that group or make a new version of each and render just the ‘Version2’ clips. Or even the option to render all the grades that have been modified since the project was opened.
