  • Helge, did you see the video presentation of Resolve 8 on their website? It covers the XML workflow briefly, but enough to understand that this is what we’ve been waiting for.

It also shows a sequence with three tracks, and one clip with a wipe being transferred from FCP to Resolve via XML.

  • You have some very interesting questions. Let’s cross our fingers Resolve is able to stand on its own feet.

I just logged on to their website. First of all – well done on the design.

    Second: WOW! DaVinci keeps growing.

I don’t think PCI express will be obsolete until the new standard has taken over entirely. You can’t easily add a PCI card with TB. You will need a special chip in the computer to handle TB.

If I’m mistaken, I blame Engadget for my faulty wisdom.

Is there a reason to boot SL in 32-bit at all? If you need 32-bit, you can force applications to run in 32-bit by ticking the box next to “32-bit” when you view information about the app.

You can run Resolve without a Decklink card. But you cannot monitor to a video monitor without one.

    Warren
Any codec in the Prores family, XDCAM HD and DVCProHD seems to work fine here.
Do you get an error message or is it just doing nothing?

I’m doing the same thing. If I get a FCP project file I make sure to create an offline with sound, and ‘extract audio’ in Resolve from that offline. I do the same thing if I get only a big QT file too.

I believe I read somewhere that Resolve won’t play more than stereo. But if it could to 5.1 it would be super awesome.

I’ve recorded a few grading sessions and play-outs on my other Mac Pro with Media Express. There’s clearly 8 channels through SDI.

March 31, 2011 at 9:16 pm in reply to: Poll… How many crashes per day?

Only times I have crashes is when media files are corrupt, or when the Autosave kicks in just as I hit CMD+Q to quit. That makes Resolve freeze and the nice spinning ball (totally on LSD of course) shows up.
I let it run over night once to see if it could fix itself, but it kept spinning when I got back to work the day after. Only solution for that is to force it to die.

Afaik, debayering has nothing to do with the GPU. That’s handled on the CPU – thus – you won’t get better debayering performance with more GPUs.
