I’m not saying you won’t get help without supported hardware – but it’s harder to nail the problem when you most probably won’t have such problems using supported hardware.

I experienced this early in the game, last year. What I found was you can switch the grade on and off, and you should have the same performance as before.

If not, I’d suggest you contact davincihelp@blackmagic-design.com and tell them in detail what you do, what you’d expect to happen and what’s not working.

I never change things during playback. That will lag. Adjust colors and all while you’re paused. The clue is that you can play through the timeline without the need to render to see it all in motion – and with sound if you’d like that.

Real-time playback after adjustments, and with sound, is something my clients love, and hopefully something they think they need. That’s what makes them come back over and over.

Some, however, don’t care too much about that. But those are the ones who’s been in the business for a long time and understands that this is serious stuff going on, when you throw RED 4K and 5K material at the computer. You can’t grade at full debayer without some extreme processing power.

DaVinci Resolve works best with CUDA GPUs anyway, that is nVidia Quadro or GeForce cards. As Margus pointed out, while you can get good performance, you might not get real-time playback.

I sometimes get this if I
– have Safari or any other browser running
– iTunes playing

I think what’s happening is my receiver (I’m using a Logitech Z906 speaker system) is getting mixed signals. (yup, I said that!). Switching the system off, quitting the apps, and switching the speaker system on again usually solves the problem.

I don’t have resolve at home atm, but I’m sure you could switch on “Show title safe” or something. It’s from one of the drop down menus in the top of your screen. Try ‘Session’ or something around that area.

Now, when you see those, you get an idea where the 4:3 markers are. Blank the heck out of the image!

That’s what I did. Ever after I got the Eclipse control surface (which I encourage all to get..) was abandon the Wacom. It became better to use the mouse for the few UI things I do. And saves space on the desktop.

The Wacom is now a tool for special operations like when I retouch a photo or need to sign contracts and return to sender through email.
