  • Blanking Values for 4:3 pillarbox mask for HD footage

Posted by Justin Lovell on December 5, 2011 at 7:55 pm

Trying to create a simple Pillarbox mask. Was going to do it in “FORMAT”> Output > Left / Right Blanking. But unsure what the exact numbers are for the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Can anyone advise (or provide another method for doing this?

    Thank you!

I don’t have resolve at home atm, but I’m sure you could switch on “Show title safe” or something. It’s from one of the drop down menus in the top of your screen. Try ‘Session’ or something around that area.

Now, when you see those, you get an idea where the 4:3 markers are. Blank the heck out of the image!

good idea – though it shows title safe, so may be slightly off,

    found another solution…

    Click session
    “output blanking”
    choose 1.33:1

Any way to do this on the input? I need to pillarbox just the main titles.

just create video file with safe area in black and white, and then screen it on with layer node.

    it should be simple.
