I’ve had the same issue as well. If I install the latest QuickTime my MOV files are BLACK when imported into Sony Vegas 8 Pro in Windows XP sp3.

I had to uninstall the new quicktime and find an earlier version of quicktime, and it worked. Something with the new version of quicktime Sony Vegas Pro 8 doesn’t like because it works fine on Sony Vegas Pro 10 with the latest version of QT.

Just found your post because I’m having the exact same issue with Sony Vegas Pro 10.

I just finished a HUGE 4 Day dance performance with over 100 titles at different routine points. Nearly HALF of them all reverted to old text or no text at all. I only noticed this AFTER burning over 300 DVDs and selling them all. A customer brought it to my attention.

I now have a $6,000 dollar project completely BOTCHED because of Sony Vegas Pro 10. THANKS SONY!

Not only is my business reputation on the line, but so is my income and the LOST income from re-editing, re-burning, and getting all the customers NEW dvds! This includes speny Thermal printing on each DVD as well.

I’m SO FINISHED WITH SONY! I’M DONE!

If I even continue in this dying industry, I will NOT be using Sony any longer. If I could SUE Sony for damages I would. Believe me!

    PROBLEM FIXED!

BAD RAM! My 8GB of G.Skill Ram was bad. Had to RMA it.

Installed 16GB or Corsair XMS3 and it runs great with no issues so far!

I don’t remember who said it could be the ram, but THANKS!

LOL Great! I’m going to look up and see what CERTIFIED ram they suggest.
I am running 1333 with an I-5 stead of 1066. Not sure that matters but could be an issue?

    Thanks

Great thanks so much! It makes sense. I’ll go with the RAM. Someone else also said the RAM. Guess I’ll swap it out although it tests out fine in Memtest and other tests.

Could be a Win 7 driver as well.

In Windows 7 64 Bit with Sony Vegas Pro 10, I sometimes will get a rendered stutter near transitions. If I go back and re-render, it usually fixes it. But it’s very rare.

My main problem with Windows 7 64 bit is during Multicam editing. I can’t get more than 1 minute playing the timeline before Vegas stops responding. If I wait about 5 minutes Vegas will come back, but then stop responding again about 1 minute later. It does it randomly through any and all SD .AVI video files. The AVI files are standard which were captured from an SD Mini DV camera using VidCap. So there shouldn’t be an issue there.

If I swap hard drives over to Windows XP Pro SP3 on the same PC and use Sony Vegas Pro 10 32 bit, it’s flawless. I never have a crash, lock, or responding issue with Sony Vegas Pro 10.e on Windows XP Pro Sp3. I can’t remember when the last time was I got a crash or had an issue. But using Sony Vegas Pro 10 with my Windows 7 64 bit OS, is completely out of the question. It’s totally usable.

Yes, it’s a full clean install of Windows 7 64 bit professional on a brand new 7200 RPM WD HDD.

Yes, it’s a full clean install of Sony Vegas Pro 10.

Yes, my Bios, drivers, updates and patches have all been completed.

Sony Vegas Tech Support has refused to answer any of my questions regarding this. It’s now been 3 weeks since I submitted a report and not one single reply. How nice of Sony to provide such comprehensive support for a product they sell that seems to have issues with Windows 7 64 bit.

I contacted Microsoft and they said it’s not an issue with Windows but with Sony. Go figure.

So now I sit with a PC loaded with 8GB of Ram and having to use Windows XP Pro which only sees 3.8gb just so I can get projects out clients are paying for.

The only reason I switched to Vegas Pro 10 was to utilize CUDA and more ram with 64 bit.

I’m beyond frustrated at this point with Sony as I have been a paying customer for over 5 years now and spent over $2,000 dollars on their software.

The latest “E” patch complete reeked havoc and now Sony Vegas Pro 10 will not even load SD .AVI files into the time line in Windows 7 64.

That’s my issue. I know I’m not alone with this, I just wish SONY would get their act together and start fixing what they sell.

  • I’m looking at a few different NLE options, Avid being one of them.
I’ve spent a good amount of money on my PC setup, so switching to a MAC platform would be a complete switch over.

I was a freelance editor on Avids for years so that would make sense for me. I never had issues with Avids other than Hard Drives taking a dump which wasn’t the software’s fault.

  • WELCOME TO SONY VEGAS!!!!

I’ve been dealing with this crap from Sony forever.
I’ve given Sony 5 years and over $2,000 dollars of money, and COUNTLESS HOURS recovering from CRASHES and FREEZES.

I run a professional video production studio and had hopes for Sony. But at this point they had their chance to earn me as a user and customer.
    THEY FAILED.

I understand any NLE can have issues, but this is absurdity beyond comprehension.

I’m running a professionally built WINDOWS 7 Professional 64 BIT editing station. Intel I-5, 8GB of ram, Nvidia GTX560 1GB GPU, 5TB of hard discs. All drivers and patches installed. All full clean installs, with limited software only to Video editing.

Sony Vegas Pro 10.e crashes, freezes, and locks constantly. It’s so bad I CAN’T EDIT with it and had to go back to my XP Pro 32 bit system just to get my editing completed.

I gave Sony 5 years of my time and money to earn me as a user and customer, but they have FAILED miserably.

I’m now looking into switching to another NLE that will allow me to edit constantly with stability.

Sony, you failed to provide a truly “PRO” software product, and you failed to keep me as a user.

I tried what you suggested and it still stutters but doesn’t completely hang now. Seems a little faster speed and it’s able to recover from whatever the issue is. But still is having an issue.

UPDATE! Sony Vegas Releases the 10.0 E PATCH!

I had high hopes this new patch would fix my problems. I shouldn’t have been so gullible. Now, just dragging an SD .AVI file onto the time line CASHES Sony Vegas “Pro” 10.e

At this point I’m afraid Sony has lost me. I hung in there for 5 years with them but it’s time to part ways.

I can’t run a professional business with tight deadlines and paying clients on software that crashes more than a drunk teenager in his dad’s Ferrari.

Sorry Sony, I’m a business. I need truly professional software that gives me dependability and stability. You are NOT.

I’ll be looking into other NLE’s at this point, but I have invested thousands of dollars to get a Sony Vegas Editing system. I have over $7,000 dollars worth of work sitting here not getting done because I choose Sony Vegas. PRO you are NOT.

July 4, 2011 at 11:30 pm in reply to: 8GB Ram Issue Vegas 10 Pro 64 bit

Ok. I’ve done everything suggested and here’s what I found.

My RAM is good. Or at least doesn’t show any errors with Memtest or the other tests I’ve run.

I pulled my video off the G-raid with firewire 800 and placed it on an internal SATA drive.

Now when I’m mulitcam editing the video stutters just slightly around the point it would normally crash but keeps going.

I’m think there is a problem but it was accentuated by using the slower Firewire 800 which caused it to stop and freeze. At least now it doesn’t crash, just stutters for a second and keeps going.

I still need to figure out what’s causing the stuttering issue. That doesn’t show up on XP Pro with the exact same files.
It still might be my Ram, but not sure how to check with out buying a different brand. My G.skill was qualified for the Intel I-5 CPU, but not my Motherboard which is strange because my Motherboard was also qualified for my Intel CPU.

Thanks for all you help. At least Pulling it off the Firewire 800 helped for now. but still need to track the issue down.
