In order to do that they need to fix the 64 bit issues that are creeping up. At least with me.
I have been an editor for 19 years and cut on just about everything.
I was very happy with Sony Vegas since Version 5 for speed and good results.I recently switched to Sony Vegas Pro 10d 64 bit and Windows 7 Professional 64 bit to take advantage of the additional RAM and faster render times. However, Sony Vegas Pro 10d 64 bit ALWAYS locks and stops responding when working on the timeline. If I wait 5 minutes it comes back only to do it again.
I have NEVER had this issue with my Windows XP Pro SP3 32 Bit Version. All the same exact hardware. XP runs smooth as butter and no issues.
I’m running all new Intel I-5 CPU, Nvidia GTX560 GPU, 8GB of RipJaws Ram, 1TB System Drive, 1TB G-RAID Video capture drive with firewire 800, and 4 additional drives for media and temp files.
It all runs PERFECT under XP. But I can’t edit longer than 1 minute under Windows 7 64.
And yes, it’s all a full clean install with everything updated and patched. No idea what it is. But the amount of money I spent building this system I could have gotten into a MAC with FCP. Or even an entry level AVID.
Any ideas?

I ran Memtest as you suggested and the ram tested 100% OK. No issues.
I’m using Cas Latency: 9
Voltage: 1.5V
Multi-channel Kit: Dual Channel Kit
Timing: 9-9-9-24
Model #: F3-10666CL9D-4GBRLSony Vegas Pro 10 32 bit runs PERFECT on the same exact PC only under Windows XP Pro SP3. It’s only Windows 7 64 bit I’m having issues with.
The hardware is all the same.
I’ve updated all my drivers, Bios and patches.
I purchased a New Nvidia GTX560 video card, a New 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive and performed a full clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, and clean install of Sony Vegas Pro 10b.
No other software was installed to conflict. When I load my SD project containing standard .AVI file captured straight using VidCap from my Panasonic Mini DV Camera, it will Stop responding, the screen turns white, and 5 minutes later it starts again only to stop responding again in a minute.
I don’t have any issues with Windows XP on the very same PC. (Different hard drive and OS)
I have tried just about everything. But this issue is driving me crazy. I spent a load of $$$$ to use Sony Vegas Pro 10 64bit with Windows 7 x64 Professional and so far I can’t.
Any help, suggestions, info, would be greatly appreciated!

Any info on why Sony Vegas Pro 10d 64 bit would stop responding during editing of SD/AVI and then 5 minutes latter start only to stop responding again 2 minutes later?
I have 2 hard drives setup with Sony Vegas Pro 10d.
1.Windows XP Pro SP3 32 bit
2.Windows 7 Professional 64 BitI use them on the same exact computer system but Windows 7 always, and I mean ALWAYS stops responding during multicam timeline editing. And sometimes during time line scrubbing. If I wait 5 minutes it starts again only to stop again.
The Windows XP Pro 32 bit OS with Sony Vegas Pro 10b 32 bit runs PERFECT and smooth as butter. I never get a crash or lock using XP.
Just on my windows 7 os.
Everything is a full clean install on brand new hard drives with all the latest updated drivers and patches.
I even ran Memtest as you suggested and my Ram tests 100% OK.I’ve tried pretty much everything but editing on Windows 7 x64 with Sony Vegas Pro 10 is a worthless attempt. I just swapped my XP OS back in and it runs great.
I REALLY wanted to use Vegas Pro 10 64 bit to utilize Windows 7, more ram and faster rendering, but that is for not at this point.
Although Sony Vegas Pro 10 is the only (64 bit) software I’m running on Windows 7, I do have a dozen other software programs installed and they all run just fine under Windows 7 and my current configuration. Sony Vegas is the only one having issues.
I’m using the RAM that was suggested for use with the Intel I-5 but could it be the timing or type of ram I’m using in conjunction with a 64 bit application? It runs just fine under XP 32 bit.
I’m using G.Skill RipJaws Cas Latency: 9
Voltage: 1.5V
Multi-channel Kit: Dual Channel Kit
Timing: 9-9-9-24
Model #: F3-10666CL9D-4GBRLI have contracted tech support with no response, I have posted on different forums with no help.
Please, any ideas, suggestions, or help would be greatly appreciated!

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit has a 16 GB limit
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit has a 192 GB limit -
Hello John,
Sorry to Hi-jack this thread but maybe you can help me out.
I’m using Windows 7 64 Bit Premium with Vegas 10d Pro X64.
Vegas continues to lock up while editing video on the timeline and jogging back and forth on the timeline with 8gb of memory installed.
However, if I pull one stick out and leave 4gb in it runs perfectly smooth with no errors or crashes.I have tested both sticks or ram and it works perfect on each single 4GB stick. If I put 8GB back in it crashes again.
Any ideas why I can’t use 8GB of ram with Sony Vegas 10 64 Bit on a 64 bit system?
My ram is G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
Intel BOXDH55HC LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80605I5760

Vegas 10 PRO crashed constantly with my Windows 7 64 Bit with 8GB of ram. Once I removed one stick of ram and took my system down to 4GB it ran perfect. There seems to be some sort of addressing issue with the Ram. I tested both sticks of ram and it works fine as long as only one 4gb stick is used.
I’m using RipJaws Ram by G.Skill DDR3 – 1333 PC3
with a 1.5V and a timing of 9-9-9-24 in an Intel Motherboard running an I-5 CPU.Any ideas?

I have the same issue.
Windows 7 64 Bit Full fresh clean install.
Sony Vegas 10 Pro Full Clean Install.
Always crashes with in 1 to 5 minutes. It will lock while playing the time-line, and if I wait 5 minutes it will come back only to freeze and lock again in 1 to 2 minutes. Editing AVI captured straight from a DVX100B to a G-RAID fire 800 drive.
System Specs
Windows 7 Premium 64 BIT (Full clean install on new 1TB WD drive)
Nvidia 8800GTS OC (640MB)
8GB of RipJaw Ram (4GBX4GB)
Intel I-5 CPU
Intel MBThe only other software installed is Photoshop and DVD Arch.
If I switch to my seperate XP hard drive on the same system it runs perfect.

(Yes! All Drivers and Bios have been updated. Everything is on Clean Full Install.)
I’m having issues with Sony Vegas Pro 10 64 Bit on Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit.
Sony Vegas Pro 10 64 bit freezes during Multi-cam editing or while removing audio plug-ins. It will lock and freeze every time while previewing video in external full view mode.
I have swapped drives and OS for XP Pro SP3 32 bit and installed Sony Vegas Pro 10 32 bit and it runs flawless. Only issues with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Also tried installing Sony Vegas Pro 10 (32 BIT) on Windows 7 and get the same exact crashes and errors.
My system specs are as follows.

Thank you for taking the time to replay! It was a huge help.
Question: 1. If the version of Vegas I’m currently using is 8.0 (an upgrade from 6.0) will I be able to buy the 9.0 UPGRADE and “upgrade my upgrade”?
IE: 6.0 —– UPGRADED TO 8.0 ——-> upgraded to 9.0.Question 2. Is the 8.1 64bit patch only for Vista 64 bit? Or would it work in Windows 7 64 bit.
Thanks again for all your help!

August 23, 2010 at 9:26 pm in reply to: How are my computer specs when it comes to video editing?Ouch. Those specs seem pretty low.
I would have at least 3 Hard Drives. 1 Dedicated to your OS ONLY.
One for your video capture files and one for your scratch disk or other media. I would suggest the eternal G-RAID 1tb or 2tb for your video capture.I would go with 500GB Western Digital Drives for the others. They are cheap enough. You want to keep your system drive above 75% for best performance.
I would also go with a faster CPU and more ram if possible.
Make sure you have enough power also to push it. 650W with a good 12v rail.
