When you view the clip in Vegas it has different quality settings, however I see the best results when I render the clip out, the viewer then gives a full representation of the clip and it is always sharper and better quality.

Lowlight performance of the 7D is good to 1600 iso, the 5D is better at lowlight than the 7D. The new 1D is extremely good for lowlight the best in a 1080p, but it is a lot more money than a 7D.
Nikon for full HD is a non starter, their product is aimed at photo journalists who can shoot some news footage at the same time and all they need is a standard def performance for output.

My theory is that what you are seeing is an inconsistent iris in the lens, which is quite normal but does show up as flicker in the film because there is a slight exposure variable. Modern lenese don’t have aperture rings, the camera body sends an electrical signal to the lens to stop it down to your selected setting, being electrical you can get fluctuations.
To test why don’t you tape over the electrical contact on the lens, or put a fully manual old lens on with an aperture ring and set the aperture to wide open and run a test.

More Hollywood productions are using HD-DSLR, even George Lucas is using 5D2 & MK4 on a current feature film, then their is a video going around showing Canons being used on the show 24.
To think we can have a camera fully capable of broadcast quality for now at $800 and we are comparing the 5D2 at $2500 to cameras such as Red.
The industry is used to using card capture with P2, so it isn’t a huge inconvenience to use Canon CF cards.
Digital HD-DSLR’s are hot right now, everyone in the industry is talking about them, so from a career point of view, if you can master them and their quirks, there are jobs for these skills.
I have a piece of footage taken on a Canon HV30 that has been bought for a Sony Pictures feature film that is currently in production.

How about hooking the camera directly to the plasma and viewing the file direct from the memory card with either the supplied rca lead or get a HDMI and see if it plays smooth.
2gigs of RAM seems small these days for large video files, I have 4gigs and that seems not enough, I notice the newer Macs have 8gb of Ram

Yes the processor is a difference, I’m looking forward to seeing the output quality. Could the processor just a speed issue and not quality?
I know on the photo side it is nothing close to a 7D and physically it might be too small for my hands. I also have a huge collection of compact flash cards and this new camera used SD.
