We’re all waiting for all the framerate firmware update by Canon. If they can make it happen for the 7D and 1DMarkIV, why are they waiting so long?

The Canon 7D let’s you switch between NTSC & PAL on the same model. You can then select framerates for the chosen standard such as 25 or 50fps for PAL and 29.97 and 60fps for NTSC along with 23.976 for 24p workflow.

the Panasonic Lumix GH-1 is 25 FPS at 1920×1080 and 50 FPS at 1280×720. It records 17 Mbps AVCHD.

Hi,
to start we must say that HD is something and Pal/Ntsc is something else.
Frame rate is a different subject matter, all the new screens (LED’s, LCD’s, Plasmas) are working progressive while interlace is legacy of CRT’s. Canon is going to release a new firmware for the 5D with the possibility to record 25, very soon.

I have a 7D and it definitely doesn’t record PAL, not in Europe anyway. It allows me to switch between 1080p, 720p and 640×480.

The Pal NTSC thing is confusing, because the Canon 7D does switch from pal to ntsc, but it is only for playback on a tv.

The other poster is correct, the Canon HD DSLR’s shoot progressive and the 7D at the moment has the most choice of frame rates, including 60fps which will give some cool slow motion when you adjust your fps in an editor to say 24fps.

For the OP the Canon 7D would be a good choice.

Nope, you can shoot PAL too. You can’t see those frame rates when you’re set to NTSC, but once you go into the MENU and set it to PAL, then you’ll have access to the PAL framerates, 720P @ 50fps and 1080 @ 25fps. And when you’re in PAL mode you won’t see the NTSC framerates.
I don’t think the 5D has this, yet. But the PAL framerate was one of the big selling points for the 7D in EU.

I’m sorry but I own 7D in EU and PAL is definitely NOT an option. Nor is full NTSC. There is only 1080/24, 1080/25, 720/50 and 640×480.

Andrius is right, if you select pal it opens up the pal frame rates
