    Hi all,

I have a SONY Z1 HDV working for the last 4 years with sucess.
For the work that I do it’s a great camera.

I have a project to do a large corporate video and have to shoot in quite dark places, and also need quite more depth of field than I get with the Z1.

So I’m planning to buy a DSLR to do a large part of the video shooting.

    I’m in a PAL country. I need to shoot 1920×1080 at 25ips.

As far as I can find only the Canon 7D and the 1D Mark IV will give me fullHD at 25 ips.

What more options do I have?

I’m a Nikon fan but seems that Nikon is only 1280×720. Correct ?

Is the Lumix GH1 a good option for me ?
Vs. Canon 7D or a Nikon, what’s your advice?

    Thanks a lot
    Carlos

All Nikon’s that I have seen are 1280p. Even there “New” $5,000 USD D3s is 1280×720.

    Canon has announced a new T2i that has a wide variety of shooting flavors. 1920 x 1080 (Full HD): 30p (29.97) / 24p (23.976) / 25p, 1280 x 720: 60p (59.94) / 50p, 640 x 480 (SD): 60p (59.94) / 50p). Not sure when they will release it. And it is below $1,000 USD.

I don’t see Nikon creating new cameras with video capabilities the way Canon has.

You mean all Nikon’s are 720P, right?

Lowlight performance of the 7D is good to 1600 iso, the 5D is better at lowlight than the 7D. The new 1D is extremely good for lowlight the best in a 1080p, but it is a lot more money than a 7D.

Nikon for full HD is a non starter, their product is aimed at photo journalists who can shoot some news footage at the same time and all they need is a standard def performance for output.

Why not try the Lumix GH1 from Panasonic with the HH 020 pancake lens. Has a diafragma of 1.7. Shoots 25 fps and 1920X1080

I’d go 7D for now unless you have the money for the 1D – but you can buy a 7D and two nice L series lenses for the 1D body price.
