I think there are some posts in here if you search. From what I recall, there are some issues with drivers, for example Decklink has no drivers for that platform.

As far as I understand (please correct me if I’m wrong) Premiere 1.5 uses only 8-bit colour depth when processing video, so if you do any effects on the video they are rendered in 8-bit. However, un-effected video stays in 10-bit.

I’d love to sneak in there and play Doom on that 🙂

I was trying to capture by playing the deck and then pressing record… and scene detect seems to be on by default. By marking in and out points I was able to capture my footage.

Can scene detect be turned off when capturing in a Decklink job? It seems to be greyed out.

I have the latest software for sure… v 5.1, the capture problem seems to be limited to adobe premiere.

Although I use a PC with decklink, I’m quite familiar with decklink on a G5, and it is more mature on the G5 and the realtime stuff works better. I’d stick with the G5 (if I could afford it I would 🙂

    HiLuke

I did a test capture using the deck control software and it worked fine. Furthermore, I imported the clip into a Premiere job and it played without difficulty.

  • I don’t know that there are any Opteron laptops… mine’s an AMD Athlon 64. If I’m doing 3D work or effects, two fans kick on, but otherwise it’s not too hot. It does warm the lap a bit, but that’s typical of any powerful laptop I think.

I don’t know why anyone would get a Pentium for video editing. My Compaq’s faster, came with more RAM, and cost way less than any other I’d seen ($1599 CDN with a 3500+ Athlon, 1 GB of RAM and a DVD+- Dual burner). I use it constantly with Premiere Pro 1.5, no problems or crashes. Also, when Windows XP64 comes along, my system will be ready, as the processor supports 64 bit. With the operating system alone, I’ll get an instant speed boost, and as the apps are ported to 64 bit, a further speed boost.

My experience is that if the files are Quicktime DV files, then it will handle them in real time. Otherwise, no.

Even with the Quicktime DV files you may get a red bar… but on a reasonable system the files will playback realtime, in full res, with no hiccups. You may have to render in the end but it’s superquick.
