June 15, 2005 at 5:32 pm in reply to: OY! – “Project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened” Help Me OB WAN, you’re my only hope!!!Save As, Save As, Save As…. Save Ass.
My project list looks like this:
ABC June 14 01.prproj
ABC June 14 02.prproj
ABC June 15 03.prproj
ABC June 16 04.prproj
ABC June 16 05.prproj
ABC June 16 06.prproj
ABC June 17 07.prproj
ABC June 17 08.prprojEtc. ad nauseum. I started this in Discreet Edit with the timelines. It’s very easy to tell which project is the latest, if the latest goes corrupt I go back one. Plus, I have the auto-save, although I find it unreliable.
We all forget though. Ugh.

June 15, 2005 at 5:14 pm in reply to: Which laptop processor for editing? I use Adobe Premiere ProI have a Compaq Presario 3420CA with an AMD3400+ 64bit processor. It’s at least as fast if not faster for processing video than our 3.2Ghz P4 desktop.
In Canada, it’s cheaper than your other brand name P4 machine as well, and often comes cheaper with 1 GB of RAM.

I guy in a previous thread on May 29 indicated that the K8WE works. However, he said he had problems with the K8W.

There are degraining filters in Sapphire plugins… Combustion 4 also has a degraining filter which I think pretty much works the same as described above using blurring.
That’s the closest thing I’ve seen to denoising. What kind of noise do you have? If you have the budget you can take it to a transfer suite and do a tape to tape transfer with grain or noise reduction, if the facility has the right kind of machine.

You should check the Matrox forum for the RT.X100E product… at one point users were finding the product a bit buggy.
If you’re getting a dual proc system, you can just use PP1.5 for awhile and see how you like it, if you feel the need for speed, then get the card. My suspicion is that with such a fast system, you probably won’t.

Premiere Pro doesn’t really support real time effects natively. You would need the video hardware to do that, such as the Axio (which is very expensive) or the Decklink (not so much, but not much realtime).
I don’t know that the Axio supports dual-link. The Decklink board does, however.
If you want lots of realtime effects, you would probably be better off taking the money you would use to buy an Axio and buying a Dual G5 2.5 Ghz system with a Decklink board, thus getting everything you want, realtime + dual-link, for less money. The G5 Decklink is also a more mature solution.
Setting up a G5 system would be far easier as well… unless you’re a dabbler, you’d do well to stay away from a PC solution for HD right now.

That’s probably a stretcher right now… maybe in 32 bit mode.
But you’d need 64 bit Prem Pro and 64 bit drivers to take full advantage.
Maybe next year.
