Try the Vectorizer Object, (Objects / Spline Primitive / Vectorizer).
In the Attributes-Manager open your image into the Texture-window of the Vectorizer.
(this works best with black and white simple images / Tree white -Background black)
Maybe use the Alpha-Map from Photoshop as a Vectorizer-Image.In the Object-Manager drag your Vectorizer-Object into an Extrude-NURBS,
than project your colour-image onto that tree, try Flat Projection,
try Tags / Fit to Object / otherwise you might have to scale it a little to fit
(use the texture tool).Cheers

Well, animate one rotation of your planet /
(you might like and set the keys to Linear interpolation)open the Timeline / select the planet /
in the Attributes-Manager set After to Repeat /
(your object should rotate (loop) now as long as your animation-length).Cheers

Try this:
Create a Circle-Spline and make it a child of an Extrude NURBS /
create a new Material in any colour or texture /
drag that Material onto the Extrude NURBS /In the Attributes-Manager the Texture-Tag-Properties will be available/
tick in the Selection-window and write C1 / tick an empty area in the object manager to deselect the Texture Tag
your material should be visible now in the Viewport on the front-face /Create a new material / or drag the same one into the Extrude NURBS again /
and in the Tag-Properties window write C2 / tick an empty…
your material is now applied to the backside of your Object /Create a new material and drag it on the Extrude NURBS as well /
in the Object Manager drag this Texture Tag to the Left that it will occupy the first
position in the row of 3 Texture Tags / deselect all Texture Tags /
the front the back and the side should have all their own textures applied.Cheers

Try this:
If you like to keep your Extrude NURBS and Spline intact,
set Projection to Flat or Cylindrical and run Fit to Object from the Tags-Menu,
if ask Do you want Subobjects to be included say Yes.
(this of course will cover the whole object)Or type C1 or C2 into the Selection window in the tag properties,
to cover front or back – or both sides. (then you might have to apply your material twice)Otherwise make your Extrude NURBS Editable / select the Extrude NURBS and
the two Caps and run Connect from the Objects-Menu / maybe delete the old
Extrude NURBS and Caps or make them invisible. In your new object you might like and use the two remaining Selection Tags, C1 and C2,
for applying your material(s) to the front and back.Cheers
